So AMD can manage to very seriously compete with Intel who have their own fabs, yet can't compete with Nvidia who don't? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense ATM... Certainly not making them look good. (Meaning, all the hard work they put in to compete against Intel -and pull off a miracle- is kinda getting cancelled out with Navi pricing). |

I heard news that they were dropping all the introductory pricing they had previously announced to better compete with Nvidia Super launch prices. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I heard news that they were dropping all the introductory pricing they had previously announced to better compete with Nvidia Super launch prices. They are and AMD has called Nvidia's bluff! Its completely savage to throw out fake prices then Nvidia brings out the Super cards and their pricing then AMD trolls them with the "sales" prices which are really just the regular prices LOL! I love Nvidia and AMD but this competition is like the electronics version of the muscle car wars! Tomorrow is the big day though! I'm perfectly happy with my 2700x and 1950x but it's going to be exciting to see AMD take the lead. I never used to like AMD at all and would always steer clear of them and build Intel systems and recommend them to others but now I'm team red. I bought a laptop for college in 2011 and all Walmart had in stock was an HP ENVY with an AMD processor. Let me tell you... that laptop is still going strong to this day and is still pretty quick by todays standards. All of this has happened before and will happen again -Battlestar Galactica |

is still pretty quick by todays standards. This your AMD A8-5550M? Depends on what you mean by quick. At less than 1/4 of the performance of current high end laptops, and roughly 1/3 of the performance of current mid range laptops, i'd have to say it's not very quick at all by todays standards. is still pretty quick by todays standards. I meant its quick for doing basic tasks........ not crunching, gaming or high end work. So to me its pretty quick for what it is. All of this has happened before and will happen again -Battlestar Galactica |

OK, so I'm only halfway through the Hardware Unboxed review but I can already tell that... This thread is going to explode far more than it already has! It's a beautiful day :) |

Test results and summary about what I expected. AMD is back on top for consumer general purpose cpus. Need to see more reviews of Ryzen Gen. 3 on older X470 motherboards. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

They haven't quite matched Intel on IPC (Instructions per Clock), but overall they're damn close. But when it comes to programmes that can use multiple threads, and power efficiency, they have certainly taken the lead. Grant Darwin NT |

There seems to be an issue with the new Ryzen 3K processors in combination with the latest Linux distributions: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=ryzen-3700x-3900x-linux&num=2 The Ryzen 3K processors seem to work with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but not with Ubuntu 19.04 (and other more recent distributions). There seems to be an issue with the new Ryzen 3K processors in combination with the latest Linux distributions: In spite of the caveat the rest of the review shows Zen 2 being competitive to superior in raw performance. When you add cost to the equation I can't see any reason for anyone but a pure gamer to buy the equivalent Intel cpus. On the other hand if you already own those Intel CPU's I can't see a strong reason to replace the CPU/MB. But I can see lots of people who own older Am4 socket motherboards migrating to the 3900x or waiting on the 3950x. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

There seems to be an issue with the new Ryzen 3K processors in combination with the latest Linux distributions: Strange that they are just now finding issues with the higher kernels. The engineering samples have been out for months. The Phoronix site has been publishing articles weekly about how all the latest kernels have the march=znver2 compiler flag ready for improved performance on the cpus. "Best" X570 motherboards with lots of pcie slots include at least https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRESTIGE-X570-CREATION/Specification Which apparently has 7 slots. I saw a lot of 5 slot X570's. Are there any other 6+ expansion slot X570's at the moment? Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

But when it comes to programmes that can use multiple threads, and power efficiency, they have certainly taken the lead. No quite right. Amd has surpassed it.. https://www.sweclockers.com/test/27760-amd-ryzen-9-3900x-och-7-3700x-matisse/28#content In Swedish it says that the cpus are running at 2.8Ghz so we can clearly see that if a processor is pegged at only 2.8 the Ryzen 3000 series is now in the IPC lead over Intel! Hats off Amd. 3700X soon in my pc. :) _________________________________________________________________________ Addicted to SETI crunching! Founder of GPU Users Group |

From the later tests and reviews comparing the same Ryzen 3000 cpus on X570 mobos against X470 mobos with the same memory kits, the X570 boards have a slight advantage in memory speeds over X470 motherboards. Still, it's great you can just drop the new processor into the same socket on your X470 or X370 motherboard and get better memory speeds than you were able to achieve on the X370 and X470 motherboards. Proves it wasn't the motherboard or memory sticks that held back the memory speeds on the earlier generations. It was the IMC in the earlier cpus that limited the memory clocks.
