My last Windows machine was on Windows 10 and running the Lunatics cpu app. I had the Windows 7 machines also running the Lunatics cpu app. They all could run the BLC tasks under an hour on Ryzen 1700X or 1800X cpus. Arecibo different story, closer to 90 - 120 minutes.

Is the lunacy approach appropriate for the 2990wx? If so what is the link to the correct current software please?

It should be. I have run the lunatics distro on "several" different machines and it always ran the cpu tasks faster. Usually something like 30% faster.

But until the Seti scheduler decides which cpu tasks it should be shipping to the 2990wx, it will still send cpu tasks that run slower than other tasks. Might give it a chance to "settle" down first.

With the lunatics distro you choose specific apps/tasks to do the crunching with.

I am not sure which distro is the latest. Keith/Mike should know though.

There are only "cpu" tasks. They either can originate from the Arecibo telescope or the Green Bank telescope. The servers don't prioritize one over the other since they all run the same on the single cpu application for each platform.

The Lunatics installer can be downloaded from Mike's World and the latest is the 0.45 Beta-06
http://mikesworld.eu/download.html

When you choose the gpu app for your card, carefully select the SoG application which is not default in the installer. The SoG app is fastest of all of those listed in the installer.

Message 1980158 - Posted: 13 Feb 2019, 19:57:03 UTC - in response to Message 1979103.

I need some guidance on this BIOS on the ROG Extreme mb as I do not understand what I am seeing.
I went into it tonight to search for PSS in order to turn it off as I said I would do as there has not been any obvious improvement with the other tweaks and found the following:-

BIOS version 1601 dated 26th October 2018

Memory says is 2133 but it is rated 3000 as shown by HWINFO as CM4X8GD3000C16K4D with a clock of 1499 Mhz WHY?

Advanced/CPU Configuration has no PSS visible and indeed only two items that can be changed :-
NX mode which is enabled
and
SVM mode which is disabled (should it be?)

I am a bit bamboozled but accept that 4 channel memory would obviously be better so have ordered an extra 16GB identical memory expected at weekend.. As all the sticks will be identical I assume it doesn't matter which slot is used for each stick - but do you need to set something to say use interleaving or is it default?

If your memory has a XMP rating of 3000 but you are only running it at JEDEC 2133, you haven't selected XMP standard in the BIOS.

Go into your BIOS in the Advanced Mode. Select Extreme Tweaker menu choice. Select the AI Overclock Tuner and the field should open up for D.O.C.P. Standard setting. Select that. You should see the BIOS now show your rated 3000 XMP rating for your sticks.

The Memory Frequency field should also have updated to show DDR4-3000 now too. You should see the current configuration updated in the right hand Hardware Monitor status also.

Go to the Tool menu and save the profile as 3000 or whatever you want and Exit and Save your settings. The computer will reboot and probably turn off and on several times while it does memory training.

This is normal. When you get the BIOS splash screen again, go back into the BIOS and look at your System Hardware Monitor status page again and it should now show that your memory it running at 3000 instead of 2133.

The reason why Hwinfo shows the memory running at 1500 is because that is the actual clock frequency. DDR4 or Double Data Rate memory is clocked on both the leading and trailing edges of the clock cycle. The XMP rating show the effective data rate of 1500Mhz X 2 to get the rated and published DDR4-3000 XMP rating.

The manual does not show all the BIOS pages that are present in the menus. In the cpu configuration you should be able to acess the AMD CBS and AMD PBS menus. There is a ton of settings in those menus. The PSS or Cool n' Quiet setting is buried in there.

ASUS motherboards also have a nifty F9 feature which is a Search function. It will find things that are not in the manual and buried deep in the menus. Have you tried searching for the PSS search term in that utility yet?

I got my Ryzen up but the video driver under windows seems to have consolidated both gpu threads into a single gpu.

At least that is my current explanation for how slow the GTX 1060 3GB's are running.

Both the taskmanager and gpu-z are convinced that I have 1 card loaded and the other completely idle.

Thank you. Very clear instructions and I wonder why the specialist UK builders did not do that as they are specialist gamers and overclockers. Perhaps they are unfamiliar with these new AMD processors. It is now running at 3000 and I assume that when I fit the extra 16gb the BIOS will automatically recognise these as 3000 devices also and interleave them as this is set to auto.
We will have to see how this helps the performance.

Well PSS or cool n quiet doesnt exists as such but research turned the following quote up:-

AFAIK AMD CBS > ZEN Common Options > Global C-States Control is AMD Cool'n'Quiet.

so I disabled that and the system is still running (:
Will it improve the performance now that I have sorted the memory out and apparently stopped PSS? We will see.
Thank you.

No, not perfectly correct. Cool 'n Quiet is different from C-States slightly. Both downclock advantageously but in slightly different manners. Too technical to delve into the exact differences.

Every BIOS is different. I have both PSS and C-State control in my ASUS C7H motherboard BIOS' AMD provides the general framework for the BIOS structure, but every manufacturer can choose to use or expose BIOS features as they wont. In some BIOS', features are hidden that are exposed in other motherboards or from different vendors.

The faster you can run you memory, the faster the Ryzen or TR will be since the memory clock is the same clock as the cpu data fabric clock. Also if you can tighten up your timings, that will speed things up.
You can read about memory overclocking here.

4 x 8 identical 3000mhz now installed but how do I get into 4 channel mode? I would have thought it was an automatic function as is the fact that 32gb automatically recognised but hwinfo says dual channel and I can't find a BIOS setting. Like the 'missing' PSS perhaps?

You will have to look around in the BIOS. Could me many places in fact, usually is. Tweakers Paradise, Overclockering, AMD PBS etc. etc. Use the BIOS Search function if yours has it is easiest. F9. You are looking for Memory Interleaving, or Channel mode, or UMA or NUMA mode. Doesn't your manual say something?

What slots are they in? You want them in separate sets of slots. That meant for me that the ram was located in the two outside slots and the two middle inside slots with open ram slots on either side of the inside slotted ram. You need to check your MB manual to find out which slots they should be in. If you manage to put all the ram into just 2 channels that is all it will do :(

Well there are only 4 slots on the extreme rog board and as all sticks are identical I assume it doesnt matter which stick is in which slot? I appreciate that if there were, say, 8 slots that position would be important but not when there are only 4. F9 doesnt seem to be available as a search and I have read the manual cover to cover without success.
I will trawl the BIOS again tonight.

Just read this again and realised that there are 8 slots - 4 on either side so to use ASUS terminology 4 doubles. I have it wrong as I put all 4 in the right hand bank. I will change tonight when I get home.
I think I know where interleaving is now:-
Memory Interleaving = Auto : This is inside Advanced/CBS / DF common

Yes, you have deduced the problem. To get equal trace lengths for proper memory timing, paired memory slots are staggered on either side of the cpu socket. On a 8 slot board, memory should be populated in A2, B2, C2, D2. Always refer to you motherboard manual for memory population position based on the number of sticks.

Auto in Memory Interleaving will put the memory into 4 channel mode once the sticks are put in the correct position.

Yes success hwinfo now shows quad channel.
Temperature average has increased by 10 degs C so I suspect that we should have greater throughput. I will update after a few days.
Incidentally I have approached ASUS support who confirm there is no PSS (or equivalent) in that BIOS and want to know why I want to turn it off..........

I suspect there is a "cool 'n quiet" in there then.
