You may have noticed occasional bits of data from years past showing up in your queue. While running a completeness check I noticed some files that had never been completely analyzed. Some may have fallen through the cracks. Some may just be bad data that never made it through the splitters. I'm going to trickle them into the queue when the Arecibo queue is empty, just in case.

Those really are old tapes - looking at the Data Distribution History, they must have been the very first recordings from the ALFA multi-beam antenna. Possibly even test recordings?

Sheesh! Welcome to the century of "instant gratification".

1: This project does not guarantee 24/7 operation.
2: This project does not guarantee workunits 24/7.

So when they are provided, still a few complain. Must be their nature. :-)

Well, we need perfectionists/idealists to hold us to the best standards ^^

Additionanlly,

  • Better late than never;
  • Full divulgation was provided;
  • Any technosignal received has been transmitted a loooong time ago already., and detecting it 12 days, 12 yrs or 120 yrs later won't make a difference. (Well, scrap that last item; SETI@home needs to be the first do find such a signal, and I 'd like to know if it's possible to survive our technological infancy while I'm still alive ^^ )

If I understand it correctly since NitPicker never got off the ground and Nebula is still in it's forming stage then none of the data has been analyzed anyways. So 12 year data is just as good as 1 day old data.

I wonder what they will do with the freed up disk space after all the work is processed

In terms of SETI this process will free up only a very small fraction of its disc space.

That is also how I understand it Bob.

Nitpicker failed for two reasons, firstly they changed their tack halfway through and decided to go for Real Time analysis, and secondly they didn't have circa $40K to buy a machine capable of it.

Nebula was announced in December 2016, but over 2 years later nothing has happened. DA's main job is as Director BOINC, plus other scientific involvements. Nebula work is a side line, and even then he has to be helped with the more technical bits by Eric Korpela, Director Seti@Home. The intention may be there to have a working Seti back end at some point, but on present showing, we shouldn't hold our breath.

The Breakthrough listen project to search for ET was funded by $100 million over 10 years., but not one single dollar was allocated to seti@home. I'll leave you to join the dots.

I believe Bruce Allen was going to very kindly donate one of his computer clusters for the project you talk of, unfortunately I cannot remember the source where I read this

While a lot of the dates are 2006, some are 2011 others are 2016. Most of these have log entries claiming they were done, but none of the results are in the database.

And/or the validity of the database.....( a database that has crashed and been rebuilt several/many times over the years)

I'll run my 'data distribution' tool at the end of the month and see if I find anything new.

I for one think it would be nice to know in advance about any Vogon notice of a scheduled demolition of planet Earth by one of their constructor fleets making way for a hyperspace bypass, although I doubt Vogons care much about strongly held objections, major leaflet campaigns or replies.
