1:1 The term SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) often is used synonymously with the search for technosignatures.
Could that imply that NASA may fund or partially fund Seti in the future?

Unlikely, they're barely funded themselves.

Thanks for this Eric. A year ago I gave a talk at my astronomical club about SETI. Reading this report has made it rather out of date! Is there a comparable forum/report about biosignatures?

Could you point me in the direction of finding these kind of clubs in my region? I would love to take my interest to a new level!

Eric
Just had another thought about the report.
To find a planet like ours, there would need to be the right biosignatures and technosignatures (as mentioned) BUT surely the planet concerned would need a magnetic field to protect it from harmful radiation? Is there any way of detecting this?
Regards

It is very unlikely that we currently have the technology to detect the magnetic signature of an earth-type planet at interstellar distances.

Thanks for the response Bob. The same lack of current technology also applies in biosignatures where detecting water and especially chlorophyll in planateary atmospheres would be a great way of sorting out habitable from inhabitable planets.

Good luck.
