Bernie's juxtaposition picture of the Taco Bell sign on an old building reminded me of my dad's old law office here in downtown Louisville. He became an attorney in 1949 after he got out of WWII, and worked in this old building from shortly thereafter until his death in 1982. The name of the firm was "Louisville Title", as you can see clearly in the second of two photos I took, today. A Quizno's sandwich shop inhabits the lobby of the building, nowadays -

I have just finished my first full shift for Crisis at Christmas.

Crisis is a homeless charity in the UK which for the past 30+ years has run homeless shelters around the UK There are 11 in London this year and one is in Croydon.

The shelters provides food, beds, and a safe environment for homeless people. They also have showers, advice centres, medical personal, and safe storage for all guest possessions., plus an internet cafe.

This runs for a week and is totally staffed by volunteers, all food and equipment is donated.

Last night was the fist night the shelter was open and had 50 sleepers, they are expecting 200+ during the week.

There were around 200 volunteers for the "day shift" and you can end up doing, anything, I helped prepare the cafe, helped unload the food, cleaned toilets and guided the guests at different spots.

The centre is in a school, as it has all the facilities needed and is of course empty at this time of year.

What is totally humbling is just how grateful the guests are many came up to me and just wanted to shake my hand and wish me a happy Christmas.

I also met lots of volunteers who just wanted to help in any way they could.

Altogether an eye opening experience.

I will be doing another "day shift" (7:45 am to 4pm) on Thursday, followed by a "night shift" (10:15pm to 8:30am) on Friday then help with the "close down" and clear up on Sunday.

I know exactly what it is like Bernie. I did that job for a paycheck years back. I used to be a assistant manager at a Salvation Army homeless shelter years back.

Thank you both for your hard work. I have been an officer or on the board of directors of several organizations that help feed and clothe those less fortunate. Volunteers and staff make it possible to do sooooo much.

New building fully evacuated for second time in 4 days.

Residents of Sydney's Opal Tower have been told to leave for a second time in four days to enable the company and investigators to conduct a "comprehensive investigation" into a crack on the tenth floor of the building.
In a statement released on Thursday afternoon Icon, the builder behind the project, said all residents would be relocated over the next 24 hours.
Residents are being warned the investigation may take 10 days.

CHICAGO — A viral video shows thrill-seekers walking along the edges — and swinging from metal bars — inside the unfinished Vista Tower, hundreds of feet in the air.

This video shows several men or teens “rooftopping,” or dangling off and walking along the edges of the towering, unfinished East Wacker Drive building. Vista Tower, when completed, will be 93 stories tall.
