My first instinct would be to say the building was there before the boundary line. Why would they build across it?

Built in 1901

Hmmm... Well, I'm perplexed, then.

Wikipedia says:

The Haskell Free Library and Opera House was a gift from Mrs. Martha Stewart Haskell and her son Col. Horace "Stewart" Haskell. ... The Haskells wanted Canadians and Americans to have equal access to the Library and Opera House and so they chose to build on the border. Construction began in 1901 and the Opera House opened in 1904 and the Library in 1905.

Wonder about the building codes ...

Trevor who some of you might remember for having made a charming appearance in Tinks's pigeon thread, is, like Tinks is, rather a bit of a lot, no more either sadly :(

Who wants to be the first to try this?
The New Cheetos Chicken Slop From KFC
KFC lovingly describes in a press release: “Made by coating a juicy, hand-breaded Extra Crispy chicken filet with special Cheetos sauce and placing it on a toasted bun with mayo and a layer of crunchy Cheetos, the Cheetos Sandwich will give you a blast of craveable Cheetos in every bite.” In this manner, KFC doubles up on the Cheetos-ness, providing a Cheetos sauce (the mind reels) as well as actual Cheetos in the sandwich.

KFC is desperate. That sounds like a sad attempt.

Last evening, I began a 12 week seminar at a place in downtown Louisville called the Neighborhood Institute. https://www.centerforneighborhoods.org/who-we-are
It is a community engagement program aimed at helping people like me who love their city. We talk about neighborhood issues and how to resolve problems and make Louisville a better place.

Anyway, last night we were asked to introduce ourselves, and as part of that, tell one thing that others should ask you about. I chose SETI, and out of the 30 very intelligent and diverse people in the room, only one had heard of it. Not too surprising really, but made for some interesting conversation.

Today's performance of Hamilton was cancelled in Chicago due to the Polar Blast.

I should say also that there's another part of my order which is a couple sticks of deodorant, and they are apparently coming Wednesday. I wonder why they didn't wait and package both orders together?

Deodorants can come under dangerous goods carriage limitations. Being in a stick form would probably make them OK, but it could be a case of a general requirement for deodorants of all types to be treaded as a dangerous good- regardless of their type.

Seti@Home has 1.76 million active users
Actually that's the number of registered users and there are only 94,240 active users, https://boincstats.com/en/stats/0/project/detail.

Cheers.

Therefore it is not surprising that most people haven't heard of Seti@Home, and also why any opinions in Politics on these boards, however strongly expressed, are not the general views of the population, just a small niche viewpoint.

Townsville is certainly doing it tough at the moment.
Townsville's flood emergency has been declared a catastrophe by the Insurance Council as rain continues to fall across north Queensland, however the water level in city's dam has stabilised.
Thousands of homes remain abandoned and streets in many Townsville suburbs have turned into rivers as the flood emergency enters its sixth day.
Authorities had concerns that up to 500 (more) homes would be impacted by flooding in Townsville overnight, however the heaviest rainfall has been recorded north of the city.

For Ingham, Tully and Halifax it has been a night of torrential rain and damaging winds. More than 500 millimetres of rain was dumped on Ingham in the past 12 hours, with 415mm falling on nearby Halifax since 9:00am yesterday. Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecaster Adam Blazak said 145mm fell in Ingham in just one hour.

If the present conditions continue, or worsen, up to 20,000 additional homes will be at risk of flooding.
The local water supply/ flood mitigation dam has reached over 212% of capacity, it's capable of holding 340% but since the dam doesn't have an auxiliary spillway the level of storage is being controlled so that it can meet the possible worst case forecasts for inflows.

And then there's Tassie.
Fire crews in Tasmania are facing dangerous conditions today, with concerns a number of blazes burning in the state could be driven towards communities by strong winds.
The fires, some of which have been burning since before Christmas, have burned more than 190,000 hectares so far, and the Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) said they could pose a "major threat to life and properties for the foreseeable future".

Very high fire danger weather is predicted across most of the state today.
Pockets of severe danger could develop in the state's north-east, driving the fires closer to communities. At 9:40am there were more than 20 fires burning uncontained in Tasmania, with 10 communities under watch and act alerts, while a further 20 were at advice level. The TFS said hot north-westerly winds with peak gusts of up 70 kilometres per hour were likely to test fire containment lines secured on Saturday.
"We still have fires that are threatening urban interface areas, that are threatening our communities in the Huon Valley, Central Plateau and west coast," Tasmania's chief fire officer Chris Arnol said.

Tasmanian lives and properties under bushfire threat 'for foreseeable future'.

If the present conditions continue, or worsen, up to 20,000 additional homes will be at risk of flooding.

Looks like things have gone from bad to worse, and the worst is looking more likely.

Townsville residents in more than 20 suburbs have been told to get to higher ground before 8:30pm AEST tonight.
Townsville residents have been urged to move to higher ground, with the council announcing the spillway gates of the city's Ross River Dam may be fully opened from 8:30pm on Sunday. The Townsville Council said the opening of the gates would see the release of up to 2,000 cubic metres of water per second from the dam between 8:30pm on Sunday and 6:00am on Monday, and rapid rises of the Ross River would cause flooding in many suburbs.

The dam has been releasing water at around 1,000 cubic metres of water per second. Doubling the flow will more than double the flooding...

Edit-
and multiple emergency warnings for the fires in Tasmania.

Edit-
and 4 emergency fire warnings in Victoria.

Dam gates have been fully opened, 21 suburbs are expected to be affected by flooding, from as little as 30cm to over 3m.
