I'm really hoping this has been photoshopped, but i'm afraid it's probably legit. Grant Darwin NT |

If that picture is what I think it is. That is a solar hot water heater. Maybe the water is getting too hot. |

If that picture is what I think it is. That is a solar hot water heater. Maybe the water is getting too hot. I agree, likely not so silly after all. Note the sunshade looks very permanent and high above the solar collector. Carefully contrived to get the warmth of the early day sun yet avoid boiling off water in the noonday fierce heat? Way to go! All on our only one planet, Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Why go to all that effort. when all you have to do is not turn the hot water tap on as much, and turn the cold one on more?If that picture is what I think it is. That is a solar hot water heater. Maybe the water is getting too hot.I agree, likely not so silly after all. That's what i do here this time of the year when there's no rain & the cold water isn't so cold. Grant Darwin NT |

That's fine apart from the scalding hazard, until the water temperature hits 100 deg C... Then what? Waste some hot water? Go steampunk BANG! Or? (Yes, those solar collectors can easily boil the hot water...) My 2006 gas water heater can heat water and make steam, scalding is a very real possibility and I dare not move the faucet too far to the left in the kitchen and I've asked to have the water heater temp reduced. So yeah I hear ya. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Even in the UK on a fairly hot day solar-thermal heaters can achieve temperatures of over 100C in the fluid (not always water), and there have been a few cases of either the heater or the tank exploding. And all of those mentioned issues will only occur if the system hasn't been installed correctly. That's why solar systems are installed with a tempering valve. (well they are here at least. Some places get 50°c + temperatures for days on end, night time minimums around 30°c, 15 hours or so of daylight. Not heard about any solar systems exploding due to the water boiling over). Gas & electric systems you just set the thermostat to an appropriate temperature (although apparently many instant gas systems also make use of a tempering valve). Edit- i can see issues occurring if the system isn't full of water, but those same problems occur with electric storage heaters that aren't full either. Grant Darwin NT |

Duh! I thought that was a bit weird... That only works for the topsy-turvy USA random ordering of month-day-year confabulation. That ordering really does look weird! More sensibly and far easier to understand we have 28 (th of) 1 (January, in the Current Era year of) 2021. Duh! I thought that was a bit weird... And even that under normal rules is wrong. We usually read numbers left to right in order of magnitude. Therefore date/time should read; year/month/day/hour/minute/second |

... And even that under normal rules is wrong. We usually read numbers left to right in order of magnitude. Therefore date/time should read; Yes, we are badly topsy-turvy... The "year/month/day/hour/minute/second" is normally used for computer timestamps for logical consistency and easy logical date/time sorting. However, common human usage is both backwards and forwards with the common format used of: hour/minute/second, day/month/year. And there are many years of hubris that conspire against going logical! hour/minute/second, day/month/year. hour/minute/second, month/day/year And we also drive on the wrong side of the road. |
