Flood Alert

River levels have fallen but remain high at Gisburn and surrounding areas as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding is still possible today, 22/02/20 until 17:00. Areas affected include low lying land in Settle, Barnoldswick, Bolton by Bowland, Sawley, Clitheroe, Slaidburn, Dunsop Bridge, Chipping and Ribchester. High river levels are possible on the Rivers Ribble and Hodder, Stock Beck, River Loud, Mearley Brook, Pimlico Brook and their tributaries. Periods of further heavy rainfall are forecast tonight and until Monday 24/02/20. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are liaising with emergency services. Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated this evening, 22/02/20, or as the situation changes.

This information last updated 12:02pm, Saturday 22nd February.

No winter, only a long rainy autumn, Spring never came, still autumny. Now let's see if summer will be cancelled too.

Nah, it will be very hot instead :(

Ah, oh to be in England now that summer's here.
The temperature is, by our standards fairly warm, but we are currently getting somewhat more than the usual amount of thunderstorms. For the last few days we've had a "good rumble" every late afternoon, running throughout the evening and today is no exception. Today we are running in the tens of strikes per minute, and those are only the ones within ear shoot of where I am. In the hour or so before the storms start the humidity climbs steadily form "damp under the arms" to "running down my back" - I'm not sure what that is in real numbers as I don't have a hygrometer to hand. It actually gets more comfortable once the rain starts, as the temperature drops very slightly.

A snapshot of our lightening strikes from a few minutes ago:

Apparently the southern tier of the USA is due for extended 100 degree F with no overnight cool downs.

Yesterday's weather was "interesting":
Ranging from 5C with low cloud and a 50mph "breeze" blowing to a pleasant 23C with clearish skies and virtually no wind - oh, and being the UK there was some rain in the mix.

Today's weather is a lot calmer with the temperature around 18C, fairly complete cloud cover and a really gentle breeze, but this being the UK rain is expected a bit later on in the day.
