You Know It's Coming.

Have you unpacked the tinsel and lights yet?

Even more worse... have you started your XMass shopping...

The shops are sure ready and I see they have even started putting chocolate and sweets on discount....

I wish I trained as a dentist :)

Yes, I'm ready. I have a large artificial tree that is very nice and looks real that I just put back up over the weekend, along with many years of old ornaments. I don't really entertain, and now that my mother is dead, it's just me, but I like decorating for Christmas.

Nope, I have tinsel and ornaments that I inherited, but no led lights or 7' tree, I'm 6'1" tall, I also don't have room for a tree yet.

I'm 6'1" tall.

I'm 5' 11". Minus gravity and shrinkage over time.

Slightly taller than the average male which means everyone asks me to put their tinsel up.

I'm too knachered to put my own up ;)

At 6' 1" you are probably in demand at this time of the year.

I don't celebrate Christmas. If you care to know why, read this: Holidays or Holy Days

I am Christian.

I'm going to Xmas in the mountains at about 4700' in elevation, hopefully there won't be any snow or black ice on the hwys and roads then.

Except for a prayer led by My sister in law that She does just before eating, I just hold hands and ignore it politely, that's as religious as it gets, for Me it's a secular holiday, but then I'm not really a religious person.

I'm there to be with all the family that I have left, I'm told just to bring Myself.

Who decorates the house? Who organizes the gift list and does the holiday shopping? Who wraps the gifts? Who does the Christmas cards? Who organizes and preps for your holiday parties? Who cooks all the special foods every family looks forward to having this time of the year?

If your answer to any or (gasp!!!) all of the above questions is "my mom", "my grandmother", "my wife", "my sister", "my daughter" or "my girlfriend", then step away from the endless football games on tv, turn to that woman and say, "How can I help?"

Most of those things are done by me, so my wife can fully enjoy christmas.

BTW: No TV during the holidays.

Sue, every serious Biblical scholar knows full well that the person known as Jesus was NOT born on Christmas day. Even the bible itself says so! Christmas is of course a contraction of "Christs Mass" or church celebration of his birth, but over the centuries it has suited people to use December 25th for many reasons. Yes of course it's a load of old nonsense, but it is unlikely to change now however much people protest.

Too much commercial profit is geared into the end of December with seasonal production lines spinning into action in the Spring. Religion is one of the biggest multi billion pound businesses in the world today, with Christmas, Easter, Advent calendars etc,. And that is just for Christianity. Most of the major religions hold multi billion property portfolios, etc.

God has very little to do with it all these days.

Likely real date

Also even the year of his birth is in doubt. Most scholars, on this basis, assume a date of birth between 6 and 4 BC.

Birthdate

I'd love to be able to change some minds, but I'm not trying to. Well, not too hard. I used to love Xmas and the decorating. I changed when I learned the truth.

I'm trying to do the Christian thing, i.e. doing what's in the Bible and not doing what's not in the Bible.

True for the most part in many average families.

My Dad use to cook Sunday dinner, our weekday afternoon teas and breakfasts. If he didn't do it us kids had to. My step mom did all the stuff inbetween. (They both worked. My Dad did long night shifts in aerospace but still found the time to do the family washing.)

Though my father likes watching football and rugby it was never a passion.

(Or more of a cave man group drug.)

Maybe that is the problem. Football :(

Anyway maybe it is time for a bit of tinsel in the thread?

I used to watch the football games in Trieste on Sunday with my dad, come rain or come shine or come bora. Now games are broadcast on pay TV from Friday to Monday and I don't watch them. it's just a way of spilling money from the TV viewers, which goes to the teams which buy players like Cristiano Ronaldo at huge prices.
