High output machines are a blessing not a curse IMO, let's stop bickering and crunch on.

Message 1979399 - Posted: 8 Feb 2019, 19:31:04 UTC - in response to Message 1979395.

The replies to my post strengthens the arguments even more.
I guess SETI has become an addiction of the RAC kind for some..
I wonder if there is a 12 step program to cure that?
Thanks for confirming that I was right. (buy Porsches instead) :-)

Keep it up. If you must.
You will notice, if you look a bit, that I am running much less hardware than I used to.
Simply due to the cost.
I still will reach a billion credits in the not too distant future.
But my RAC is not what it used to be.
And you would still lead others to believe that productive users contribute to problems with the servers?
I don't think many are listening to your arguments anymore.
If it still pleases you to continue, have at it.
Most of us know your logic falls very short of the truth.

As you were, carry on.

Meow.

say you banned everyone in the top 10 in terms of RAC. that only accounts for 7.5% of the world wide RAC on SETI. it wouldn't reduce the load on the project servers that much. the effect of millions of users requesting work FAR outweighs the few people with high RAC.

There aren't millions of active users on SETI. There are millions of registered users, or rather 1,759.531 registered users, but only as of now around 94000 active users.
[size=*not 2*]Credit Hounds[/ dont hide your words :)size]

the more important metric is RAC, since that will correlate to the amount of work being dished out to each user/host. and that was the point.

the top producers are a small portion of total load on the servers. banning them wont solve any of the server issues.

your comments are nothing but hyperbole. for someone who claims to not care so much and hate on main so much, you sure spend a lot of effort complaining about it lol.

A blessing for what?

Getting a larger database to study.
The power producing companies?

That's between you and your wallet.
What we crunch here, is only step one, and we're 20 years behind on the other steps
.
That speaks to the lack of funds to pay for the manpower. If that bothers you so much do something about it such as start a fundraiser, donate some of your money or do the analysis yourself. Bitching about it doesn't help and just makes you look pathetic.

Jesus.
I have not been modded in, like, forever,
A discussion of server status is like, off limits now..............
Just joking.
I know why it came down.

And I'll stand by that Iron Duke 2.5L Tech IV motor forever.
It might last me that long.

Lots of obsessive-compulsive types in the crunching community. I'm one. Just remember , OCs are essential for human survival. Who else would have kept the fires constantly stoked to ward off the saber toothed tiger? Now, I just get another GPU off of eBay....

I shall fade off into the background again.
I did my bit, and was successful in contacting an admin to kick the servers.
Be thankful, and that is all I shall ask.
Till we meet again.

Front page says we lost Georgem, one or our download servers and 15% of the outgoing workunits. Sigh.

Lots of "Permanent HTTP errors" and "unrecoverable errors" for queued download tasks. Those are the lost 15% of tasks.

The vast majority of mine were AP WUs.

Looks like there's still a download issue- takes a minute or so for downloads to actually start downloading, occasionally pausing while downloading, and some barely cracking the 1kB/s mark by the time they finish.
But at least if you get allocated some work, it will eventually download.

Yes I picked up around 200 or so download errors which forced all machines into 24 hour backoffs because of the error count. No AP's that I could see. The hosts that were forced into 24 hour backoffs had to download master files again after I forced updates on them to get back to requesting work. Out of work in the RTS buffer now though.
