After an hiatus I reinstalled Boinc on my 2016 MacBook Pro (Mojave, 13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports, 2 GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB). After the specified time I see the usual flashy graphics/ screen saver, and then the screen blanks.

Question: How do I know that Boinc is running when the screen is blank, where before we'd see the screensaver?

Thanks.

BOINC 7.14.2 has fixes included so the screen saver works under 10.14 Mojave. To see the Seti screen saver, you have to be running a task on the CPU. None of the GPU tasks have access to a screen saver/graphics application.
