I too am receiving the same error. The file is being blocked on Seti's end, their system believes it is a malicious dll.

Eric - any update from the Uni IT brigade (or has it dropped off their radar - I hope not)

Hiya,
I have opened up a command prompt under/as administrator and have used the command
sfc / scannow

after about ten minutes or so, the result was as follows...

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Any suggestions with regards to being able to download ... cufft32_32_16.dll

I had NVidia driver v341.74 and I tried the latest Nvidia drivers (direct from nvidia) v342.01

Any help would be much appreciated

So do I have to manually register the file …
regsvr32 cufft32_32_16.dll

to make it work ?

No, not at all... nobody in this thread has barely even hinted at a problem on the client-side. It's a problem on the server... the file can't be downloaded by anyone. You can't do anything to fix it at all. All we can do is wait for a resolve from the IT department at Berkeley (nudge) :)

Just gotta wait for a fix... meanwhile your BOINC will keep sitting there with a stuck "transfer" retrying constantly.

If you can grab a copy from another source (not hosted at the uni) you will have to register it, and then it should be linked like any other DLL, and not be resident in the BOINC or SETI folders. Once properly linked the os linkage should overwrite the need to have it lurking around in the project folder structure and BOINC & SETI should then run properly.

My queue keeps getting dried up when I'm not home due to this issue. BOINC stops network activity due to this file failing, and I'm not getting new WUs unless I abort the file manually.

I've just done a file search on my Windows PC, and can't find the file you are looking for, BUT I am running SETI@Home on it, however I am using the "optimised" applications, so may not need the file.

This previous comment from rob smith gave me an idea:
The optimized apps come packaged with all of the required libraries so I downloaded the Lunatics optimized applications installer from http://lunatics.kwsn.info/index.php?action=downloads.
I didn't install the applications, instead I used 7-zip to open the installer package (as a .ZIP file archive) and extracted the cufft32_32_16.dll file to the SETI@home project folder. You should be able to use Winzip or any other archive extractor application but you won't be able to browse into the installer package using the standard File Explorer in Windows.
I also set Network Communication = Never and aborted the stuck download in BOINC Manager before extracting the file to be sure that it wouldn't be immediately overwritten. Just remember to allow network communications again when you are done.

I haven't thoroughly tested SETI@Home yet but my initial project update has at least downloaded a work unit, BOINC Manager doesn't seem to be blocked by the unfinished download anymore.

Just tested it.

It didn't work. The BOINC Manager still wants to download the file from Seti.

I just grabbed that file, and the version of cufft32_32_16.dll doesn't seem to be the right one. BOINC claims to be trying to download a file that's about 2.5mb in size, but the one in that bundle is 27.2MB. Same thing I tried before posting here - to download from some DLL website found through Google, then to modify the client_state.xml (and its backup) to flag that file as completed.

Since that file doesn't match the hash that BOINC is looking for (to ensure the integrity of its operations), it throws the file away and tries redownloading it, which it can't do, because the download server is blocking the download.

Sadly, this came back to the forefront of my issues today, as I have a more modern rig (with no reason to be downloading an old CUDA core, as my previous computer did) that also got choked up trying to download this DLL file tonight.

Hasn't anyone in IT been tipped off by their server logs reporting constant hits to this file, or their own systems saying "hey I think there's a virus in this file so we're blocking it"? Seems like a massive failure of the IT department to be ignoring this...

Ha!! I finally got it. It turned out that my laptop, occasionally running BOINC over many years, had a copy of the file. It's supposed to be 2.84MB indeed.

cufft32_32_16.zip

I tried it on the "hung" computer, and it worked.

Unzip the DLL, take that DLL file, put it into the C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder (or whereever your BOINC data folder is), overwrite the 0KB file that's there, then retry the transfer. BOINC will notice the file is already complete and matches the expected hash, and it begins crunching the WUs.

Let us know if this fixes that :)

Seems to have stopped the constant download! Not even sure if I will get cuda32 jobs, but at least my queue is moving now! Thanks!

And, it appears the server is fixed :) The original URL now downloads fine. All back to normal. Thanks to those that helped kick it along! :)
