The EVGA GTX-750TI SC is STILL an EXCELLENT card, though Low End by today's standards... It ONLY pulls 65 Watts MAX from the PCI-e Slot, NO extra Power cord from PSU needed...

I have some parts on hand to make a new i7 7700K System planned for completion some time next year. (Hopefully in 6 Mos or so...) I plan to turn this system into a Hackintosh because I prefer MacOS to Windows.

The MOBO I've chosen is the Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3. This board has THREE PCI-E Slots, and in the case that I just picked up from Carlos, I WILL be able to make use of ALL THREE Slots as the case is E-ATX and the board has comfortable spacing for three Double Wide GPUs.

The GPUs I will be installing are ONE EVGA GTX-760, (which DOES need extra power from the PSU), and TWO EVGA GTX-750TI SC cards. I will be installing a Corsair HX750i 750Watt Platinum PSU for about $150 USD.

Once the system is built, I will be making use of TBar's Mac OpenCL App for these older cards.

[EDIT:]

I HIGHLY recommend EVGA for the brand of GPU, they are EXCELLENT quality. I've had the 750TI SC cards for almost three + years, and the 760 for over four years. I WON'T be replacing any of them until they die!

[EDIT 2:]

As far as "Oldest" cards, if you go back older than the 750TI SC, then you are looking at some pretty 'Power Hungry' cards. (ie: the 680, etc...) AND, most likely the older cards beyond the 750 model WILL need extra power from the PSU. (At least from what I've researched, and remember reading about here in Number Crunching...)

Four + Years ago, WooHoo, (Tony), gave me a system with a GTX-275 card. This card is Pre-Fermi and will need MUCH older Drivers, in addition to needing extra power from the PSU. I had started with Driver 266.58, and did successfully move it up to 337.88. But I found it COULD NOT go above Driver 337.88.

The 750's I got up to 353.30, BUT I believe they actually took a couple versions Higher in Driver Version for Windows.

Pick up 1 or 2 750ti cards. Most models do not need extra power.

You should be able to find them pretty cheap on eBay or other site for used parts. As long as you have a spare 16x PCIe slot, the 750Ti is all you need. You won’t need to upgrade your PSU.

You already have the benefit of running Linux. You can run the special app. 2 750tis would likely quadruple your production.
