Pick up 1 or 2 750ti cards. Most models do not need extra power. You should be able to find them pretty cheap on eBay or other site for used parts. As long as you have a spare 16x PCIe slot, the 750Ti is all you need. You won’t need to upgrade your PSU. You already have the benefit of running Linux. You can run the special app. 2 750tis would likely quadruple your production. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

The EVGA GTX-750TI SC is STILL an EXCELLENT card, though Low End by today's standards... It ONLY pulls 65 Watts MAX from the PCI-e Slot, NO extra Power cord from PSU needed... I have some parts on hand to make a new i7 7700K System planned for completion some time next year. (Hopefully in 6 Mos or so...) I plan to turn this system into a Hackintosh because I prefer MacOS to Windows. The MOBO I've chosen is the Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3. This board has THREE PCI-E Slots, and in the case that I just picked up from Carlos, I WILL be able to make use of ALL THREE Slots as the case is E-ATX and the board has comfortable spacing for three Double Wide GPUs. The GPUs I will be installing are ONE EVGA GTX-760, (which DOES need extra power from the PSU), and TWO EVGA GTX-750TI SC cards. I will be installing a Corsair HX750i 750Watt Platinum PSU for about $150 USD. Once the system is built, I will be making use of TBar's Mac OpenCL App for these older cards. [EDIT:] I HIGHLY recommend EVGA for the brand of GPU, they are EXCELLENT quality. I've had the 750TI SC cards for almost three + years, and the 760 for over four years. I WON'T be replacing any of them until they die! [EDIT 2:] As far as "Oldest" cards, if you go back older than the 750TI SC, then you are looking at some pretty 'Power Hungry' cards. (ie: the 680, etc...) AND, most likely the older cards beyond the 750 model WILL need extra power from the PSU. (At least from what I've researched, and remember reading about here in Number Crunching...) Four + Years ago, WooHoo, (Tony), gave me a system with a GTX-275 card. This card is Pre-Fermi and will need MUCH older Drivers, in addition to needing extra power from the PSU. I had started with Driver 266.58, and did successfully move it up to 337.88. But I found it COULD NOT go above Driver 337.88. The 750's I got up to 353.30, BUT I believe they actually took a couple versions Higher in Driver Version for Windows. Regardless I looks to me that a 750ti would be a much better choice. |

So basically this GPU is worse one out the two available in the 1030 range being two different flavours, I'm glad you didn't buy it. The better of the GT1030s is rubbish (from a gaming or crunching point of view) and the other version is an abomination that should never have been made, let alone sold. Grant Darwin NT |

The modern equivalent for the GTX 750Ti ATM is the GTX 1050Ti. ;-) Cheers. |

I also run Einstein@home and GPUGRID on a 750 Ti. GPUGRID tasks are more demanding than all other GPU using projects. Tullio |

The 1050 cards all seem to be twin slot ones and need a 6 pin power connector. They have 768 shaders Vs the 640 of the 750 cards. Performance wise the 750 is equal and cheaper. The 750Tis are cheaper, but they are outperformed by both the GTX 1050 & GTX 1050Ti. Shaggie's graphs. Grant Darwin NT |

750 Vs 1050 Shaggies's graphs are based on actual Seti performance. For their work done per Watt of power used, yes the GTX750Ti & GTX 1050 are almost even, although the GTX 1050Ti leads them both. But for the amount of work done per hour, the GTX 1050 is about 20% better than the GTX 750Ti with the GTX 1050Ti is roughly another 5% better still. A long way from close IMHO. Grant Darwin NT |

On my Windows 10 PC I have a 1050 Ti with no power connector, only PCIe. The PSU gives only 300 W. But when running SETI@home GPU tasks, it frequently reboots. Now it is running climateprediction.net, no GPU, and it has not rebooted in 12 days, so reliability index is close to 10. Tullio |

I have two brand new 500 W PSUs on my shelves, but today's PCs are so small and cramped. I used to change hardware in the Onyx Unix computers designed by Scott McNealy and it was much easier to open them and make the necessary adjustment, they we like bags with an upper lid and a lower lid. The upper lid contained all boards, the lower lid the power supply, the hard disk (called a Winchester) and the tape unit. No floppy disks. Tullio |

the only 750ti model i've seen that needed external power was the EVGA 750ti FTW card. most others shouldn't need external power. Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

Pick up 1 or 2 750ti cards. Most models do not need extra power. I have "back graded" from a gtx 1060 3GB to one of my Gtx 750Ti's using the CUDA91 under Linux. It appears to be running tasks in the 7 minute or less range. I have a couple of other Gtx 750Ti's running on Win10 boxes. They appear to be running SOG gpu tasks in the 20-minute range, used to run stuff in the 15-minute range. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

You know the 750Ti I have bought off ebay. I have checked several times and it says it has not been sent but they have taken payment. The Seller typically has 24 Hours to get the item shipped out and get you notified that it has shipped. As for MSI, I'm NOT sure if this Unit will require additional power from the PSU or not... I know MSI is a popular brand, and I'm sure someone here at SETI@Home reading this Thread will be able to comment on this. As I stated in my prior Post, the EVGA's in the 750 and 750TI SC Line DO NOT need additional PSU Power... IF the Unit is NOT shipped by tomorrow, I'd then open a dialogue with e-Bay Support to protect yourself... They may ask you to wait until Monday, (being a business day), to officially make a Dispute. While payment has been authorized by you, typically e-Bay holds said payment until proof of shipping is provided by the Seller to e-Bay. It's then at that point that the Seller gets paid by e-Bay. So, I wouldn't yet worry about getting stiffed; you should be protected by e-Bay. TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

Yep, usually sellers have 1-2 days to ship once payment is received. You are protected by EBay 100% if the seller doesn't send it or if the item is not working or not as described by the seller. |

Quick p.s. I have THREE EVGA GTX-1050 2GB GDDR5 VRAM Cards. NONE of them require Extra Power from PSU... NO Pinouts, just like my two EVGA 750TI SC Cards... This is WHY I HIGHLY recommend EVGA Line of GPUs... ymmv TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |
