Tut says he can view it with resizing in another tab. I can't right-click and 'open link in new tab' (in Internet explorer), but I can 'open image in new tab' in chrome. But pasting the url in an empty tab works. |

I've been using Chrome for general-purpose browsing for some years, because it supported multiple tabs better and earlier than IE did. But I agree that standards should be complied with - and IE (thanks to the capitalist monopoly power of Microsoft) is a standard. Since I'm out of practice with IE, how does one open an image in a fresh tab in IE? I'm used to a right-click, but it doesn't work. Edit - cross-post. Does it work on other sites? Edit2 - or does any other IE user here use any other message-board style site which can host pictures, that they can test on? |

So the Microsoft community guys are happy to leave 'don't use Microsoft' as the final answer. We'll have to find something better than that for DA. Did somebody say it worked before the original forum code change? |

'Compatibility view' here isn't a fixed size, but resizes as you resize the browser on the screen. Any beer to go with that wine? |

So the Microsoft community guys are happy to leave 'don't use Microsoft' as the final answer. We'll have to find something better than that for DA. In the past, using IE 11 with Image Resizing off, I didn't have an issue with the over sized images, I so figure before David made the changes the forum must have been resizing them to fit in the forum window- whatever size that might have been depending on the size of window the browser was set to. There was never any need for side scrolling in order to read text. Since David made his changes the forum window gets resized to match the over sized image- even if in the case of this image it's almost 3 times as wide as my browser window, and side scrolling is required to read text that would normally have wrapped to the smaller window. Greetings, Ruh roh... This particular thread is stretched to the right to the point that I have a horizontal scroll bar. I'm running on the latest version of Firefox: v63.0.3. I did a quick scan and did not find any overly oversize images. ;) This thread looks just fine even with the image several posts down from here. Just thought I would let someone know here since this thread is for that purpose. ;) I haven't gone into any other threads but this one and the one linked to above. Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. (added: I have started pushing enter after a certain number of letters,That's what I've started to do. Having to keep side scrolling just to read text is a PITA. Surely code can be introduced to limit the size of pictures within an acceptable level for the forum? |

Surely code can be introduced to limit the size of pictures within an acceptable level for the forum?Browsers are supposed to do that automatically, and Internet Explorer does it when the image is the only item on the page. But somehow the BOINC code changes have over-ridden that automatic system. We need someone who understands the modern coding standards for browser-friendly web pages to look through the code, and tell us (or more particularly, David) what he's done wrong. |

Understood that Richard. The problem (IMHO) is that there is no basic structure or ground rules. Over the years we have seen the coding enhanced/played with/messed with. 1: Have set parameters for user names, 2: Have set parameters for thread titles. 3: Have set parameters for pictures. These are not difficult as many other sites have them in place. Again, IMHO, I have seen these forums go from an orderly site to one of sheer pig swill. With said parameters in place, there will be no need for any browser to resize. As & when technology improves, all one has to do is to change parameters to meet that technology. |

Surely code can be introduced to limit the size of pictures within an acceptable level for the forum? That's what used to happen before the changes were made. Whatever sized browser window the forum was in, the image would be sized to fit, and text would wrap to the window size. I have never had image resizing enabled in my browser, because I look at a lot of high resolution images in full screen, and it's never been a problem on any site I've been to, until these most recent changes here. Edit- keep in mind the changes that broke the forum image resizing also caused text in Pre tags to no longer wrap. Grant Darwin NT |

Another test, for a potential investigator. That one came from the Cafe, message 1971175. Raw image size is 2579 x 576 |

Another test, for a potential investigator. Looks like the same HTML is being sent to both Firefox 64.0.2 and IE 11.0.9600.19236 on Win 7 SP1 Firefox renders it as expected, shrunk, IE shows it raw scroll bar. Unfortunately I expect that an entire new PHP web page generator will be needed, one that generates different HTML based on what browser is attempting to view the page. |

Also testing bulleted list - didn't seem to work at BOINC earlier today.

Fixed in 19155, reverted in 19236?Seems to be the case. I have one machine with the January updates completed so far, and that's showing version 19236, and with the stretching problem. The other curiosity is the colour scheme. In my normal Chrome browser, links show in brown. In IE 19236, they show in salmon pink - near enough. But in 19155, they show in bright green. I'll check the other machines... |
