I have two questions related to one of my computers. Here is the background: The computer in question is Core2Quad, ID: 6156281 . My Intel processor recently died. I was able to find another identical processor. I took that opportunity to upgrade my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 to a GTX 1070. To my frustration (I must admit I was considerably more than frustrated), I discovered that NVIDIA won't allow the 1070 to run on Vista. As a result, I have now upgraded to Windows 10, which I installed as a dual boot to Windows 10 and Vista. I tried to create a link in Windows 10 to my BOINCmgr.exe and the existing BOINC folders and data, which reside on a different drive than the Windows 10 OS. I did this with the hope of keeping all my BOINC projects, data, and configurations intact. Unfortunately, the BOINCmgr.exe in my existing BOINC folder starts as a new installation of BOINC, asking me to connect to the projects I want. Of course, all the tabs are blank. I suspect this is most likely due to the Registry entries that were not carried over from Vista to Windows 10. My BOINC application is Version 7.6.22 (x64). Question 1: What must I do to get BOINC to pick up where it left off, keeping all my configuration files, statistics, projects, etc.? Question 2: How do I get the Computer Information page in SETI to keep all the historical and statistical data on my Core2Quad computer, which has been serving both SETI and me loyally since I built it and put it into service on September 1, 2011? |

1) Download a new BOINC installer, or locate the installer download that you used last time 2) Look at the 'Programs and Features' control panel applet in Windows 10 (or whatever it's called - I'm reading that off Windows 7). If BOINC is listed, uninstall it. Don't panic - that removes the old programs and settings, but leaves your personal history untouched. 3) Under Windows 10, run the BOINC installer you located at (1). Pause on the third page - 'BOINC Configuration', immediately after the License Agreement. Click the 'Advanced' button at the bottom right. 4) Click the second 'Change...' button, for the Data directory. Go find your old data, and select that folder. The Program directory doesn't matter, but do make sure the other checkboxes are how you like them. 5) Continue through to the end of the installation process, and start BOINC. And that's it. You should start up again exactly where you left off, both on your computer and on the website. Nothing else to do. |

Edit- Richard beat me to it. Oh, and keep in mind that there are problems with the servers at Seti at the moment, so you won't be able to get any new work (other than very occasional re-sends) for a few more hours at least. Grant Darwin NT |
