I searched and no answer appears to fix my trivial concern. BOINC SETI has run for me for years. I upgraded to the new Mac and everything ran fine for a while. Now just get "Starting screensaver Graphics, please wait..." The engine runs fine, data is dealt with, just no screen saver graphics. No errors in event log.
I see where this has been an issue and there were to be fixes. Is there a simple one?
Again, it does not effect the process, just the visuals.
Thanks,
Jim

Tried a reset. No change. BTW, I had taken the software out and loaded an older version, same issue. I'm on the latest version now.
Really don't know how to overcome now. Not a deal breaker, just miss it.

Since the application version you are running does not have the graphics component built in, and is the "stock" version distributed automatically by the servers the graphics won't appear.
There are a few solutions:
1) - Find an old version, set up the appropriate application configuration files to ensure you only ever run that version. There are problems with that however, the "new" version was built to overcome a number of known issues with the "old" version (others can fill you in on the detail).
2) - Add the required computational updates to the above version, and then get that distributed as the "stock" application. Again, there are problems, not the least of which is having to go through the "Beta" testing phase.
3) - Do 2) in combination with the latter part of 1) to set up the application configuration files.
4) - As 2), but build the graphics stuff into the current application
etc.

Since the application is open source you can get hold of copies of any (recent) applications and "do your own thing", just make sure that the product doesn't dump loads of errors....

I'll just leave it alone. I do not possess the technical skills to do as you suggested.
I'm an older guy with a basic plug & play mentality.
Thanks for your help, I'm fine as is.

Hi Jimbo, take a look at the "No graphics on Mac 8.04 version" thread. Zalster has posted some instructions to fix the problem there.

Jimbo, in the spotlight search type terminal, once it's open copy the following and paste and hit return

cd /Library/Application\ Support/BOINC\ Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu

it should then look something like

Zalsters-Computer:setiathome.berkeley.edu Zalster$

In this case you can see it's my name but in yours it should have yours. Then copy the following into the blinking icon

sudo chmod +xsetigraphics_8.04_i686-apple-darwin

If you do it right, it should ask for your password that you used to sign on. Hit return and you should see

usage: chmod [-fhv] [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-a | +a | =a [i][# [ n]]] mode|entry file ...
chmod [-fhv] [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-E | -C | -N | -i | -I] file ...

quit terminal, close boinc, restart your computer and relaunch boinc. It should work now.

Good luck

Zalster

PS, I got all this from TBar...

Don't know why, but my SETI screensaver was working properly this morning in classic mode. Don't know if there was a Mac update (known shown in history), SETI update (nothing in event log), or what, but it started working spontaneously in an older mode (not changed by me). I'll watch it for a while and try the other visual modes later. Could be but shouldn't be an anomaly.
