I have had numerous discussions with him covering most all topics from religion, politics, and science. His step daughter lives across the street from me. He was just caught having sex with his other step daughter, who is severely retarded. Apparently this had been happening for since 2018. The church threw him out, he was fired from his job, and arrested. His wife is divorcing him. He will probably end up in prison. He used to talk to me about free will. My counter was that why the free will of one maniac is more important than millions of innocent, such as with Hitler. By "explained" away, I was referring to the handwaving around the problem of evil, how to reconcile the contradictory duality of believing that there is an all-knowing, all-powerful benevolent deity who supposedly cares deeply about everyone, yet allows us to do horrible things to each other without intervening, so that we have to pretend with no evidence whatsoever that there is an afterlife where reward and punishment will be handed out to make up for the lack of such in this one. So we have to introduce another entity (the Devil) from which the evil comes, which the all-knowing, all-powerful benevolent deity mysteriously can't do anything about even though they supposedly made the entire universe, including the entity just by wishing it into existence. Of course, if we're going to imagine there is a god, a non-interventionist one who doesn't care is just as possible as any other. I focus only nowadays on lack of evidence rather than epistemology. (Not getting any good answers to my early childhood questions about why doesn't God just get rid of the Devil right away before anyone else does evil or suffers any more was my personal beginning of the end...)
