Opened nvidia settings and it froze up...
Must be a bad slot/card/riser or cable...

Not really :-(
PCI-e slots aren't designed that way - you might get away with it, but......

I think I might wait until I get my ASUS back to try again.
I can get 12 GPU's working using the farm method if I get to work now.

reconnecting to BOINC issue. are you using the repository version of boinc? or the all-in-one package that runs straight from the home folder?

if its repository version, the issue is that it's installed as a service and needs to be fully stopped and restarted. a reboot would do that. but you can also do it with commands in the terminal.

if its the home folder version, then something is really messed up.

how many more risers do you have? do you have enough to swap them all out?

and yes, PCIe hot swap isnt a thing on most boards. you can do it on some really bleeding edge server based stuff. but not any of the normal consumer hardware.

Spent a few hours with eng today via text doing some troubleshooting and step by step reinstall of everything.

Right now the working theory is that he may have several bad risers and/or riser USB cables. I’ve seen it before, the usb cables included in riser kits are usually not great and I’ve actually replaced all my usb cables on my end with higher quality ones to avoid this problem.

He’s going to add cards one by one and test for functionality. I’ve instructed him that whenever he adds a new card and if it starts acting funny, replace the riser and usb cable and re-test.

Hopefully that is his whole problem and nothing else. But we’ll report back.

After more than an hour, I can get 9 cards plugged in and showing good in nvidia settings.
cant get 10 no matter what. Tried two different GPUs and four different riser /cable pairs...
Gotta go get ready to fly out.

Try again later.

Keep an eye on the stats for MINER-L

I think Tbar and Ian are FAR more in need of HUGE thanks. I was just an "innocent" bystander.

Still waiting on some pcie expander hardware from China. Then I will start "playing" :)
