Message 1968425 - Posted: 3 Dec 2018, 0:35:49 UTC - in response to Message 1968423.

I tried other ports and got the same results from two others.
I dunno what the limitation is.
I'd like to get ANY mining rig working will a full set of cards.
I have as many as I want.
If I can get more than one rig working with 10 or 20 cards between the two, that would be great!
I have an alter ego use case for electromagnetic simulations.
If I can get a stable system working for this, I can probably get it to work for that...

And have you tried different slots on the motherboard.

To be honest mining boards aren’t known to be the most robust, they are built with pretty low end specs most of the time. Many people have problems with them. Some are just bad or defective. If you read some mining forums you’ll have no shortage of people having problems, while others seem to work just fine. Don’t read too much into it.

And what’s your ultimate goal? How many cards do you have that you’re trying to use on one system?

Are you working with 8GPUs now?

It’s not a driver limitation.

What are your exact BIOS settings?

Just to be sneaky, I took out one of the known working GPU's to see if this is a numbers game or a port thing. It can not be a GPU thing or riser/cable thing...

So I put that GPU that seems to be a problem back in the machine I took the known working one out to try as #9 in the miner and all I get is this still on the miner...
/dev/sda1: recovering journal
/dev/sda1: clean, ########/###### files, ######/###### blocks
Blinking cursur, blinking HD LED...

The suspected GPU in the other machine is working fine.

Are we dealing with a driver limitation here??

Any help?

Reinstall the driver?

UGH! 8 is better than none...

Also now that you got working with 8. Might be good to just leave it be for now.

Get BOINC installed and let her fly

Whew! Back to 8 good GPU's showing...
I wonder if I inadvertently swapped in a bad riser and or cable with that known good #9 GPU ?

Humm...

After instal new GPU for #9, after purple screen, I'm staring at a black screen with text...

/dev/sda1: recovering journal
/dev/sda1: clean, ########/###### files, ######/###### blocks
Blinking cursur, blinking HD LED...

Crap...

Don’t panic. Just let it do it’s thing. If it’s not booted after several minutes, then give it a reboot. But I’ve seen that pop up before and it’s not a death sentence.

The card I put in I just pulled from a crunching machine.
I dont do ESD damage in my lab so thats not it. Maybe that PCI port is touched?

Bad riser is certainly possible. Try another and push on.

Glad you finally got this working properly.

ALT GPU is seen as #8 !!
Might be a bad riser, cable or GPU for all I know.
Have many cables and risers to swap out.
