1st reboot yields good behavior!
2nd reboot took the double wide GPU off the MB to a riser card so I can get at all the PCI connectors and its working good.
Next add one card...

Must be a difference in the naming convention for pushing to 18.04 vs 16.04. Everytime I’ve installed it I always run nvidia-driver-[version]

Glad you figured it out. The rest should be correct.

It should be:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-410
NOT
sudo apt-get install nvidia-driver-410

Yes. That’s included in all the nvidia driver installs.

Wether you install via the runfile from nvidia directly, the Ubuntu graphics drivers PPA, or the stock Ubuntu repository, it’s all still proprietary nvidia drivers at heart.
