just fired up an older hp (GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz [Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7](4 processors)) that i got cheaply but has no graphics cards. I would like to add one or two to the new computer, i already have 2 geforce 1050 s alread y chugging away on another computer (doing very well) but they are still in the $180+ range. I see that the 1030 s are going for about half that, are the 1030 s worth the effort in anyone,s opinion? or are they far slower than the 1050s to be worth it?

thanx

My cards are using ~2.3GB of vram with the cuda 9.0 app so I don't recommend just a 2GB card. I've never messed with the extra configs but price/performance is typically not the best at the very low end at any project.

I would recommend that you go with 1 1050 right now and add a second later perhaps. You will not be happy with the performance of the 1030.
By the way, the 10.. series are not old cards.

There are 2 different models of GT 1030, although you generally can't tell which one you are getting by it's model number.
When it comes to crunching, the good one would be really, really, slow. The bad one is an abomination.

I am getting good results with used GTX 750Ti's which are what I can afford. The GTX 1050 card has the same spec# of shaders. The GTX 1050Ti has a few more.

If you are needing good results on any version of Seti gpu processing you might look at the GTX 750Ti. Prices vary but I am seeing them as low as $50 on ebay.

If money is tight start with a used gtx 750ti, even two of them which should give you equivalent performance to a 1050Ti at $50 less....
