i get a message saying " unable to connect to core client" can anyone help please?

First thing that comes to mind is possibly anti virus, have you changed or updated you antivirus recently.

the only thin i did was stop boinc from running while i watched utube for a few hours then tried to strart boinc again afterwards.. as far as i know ive had no updates in that time...
im using avast free version
