The system was just in Maintenance mode for a few minutes, but it is back now. i'm not sure what happened. i tried to manually update the project in BOINC several times, and even tried to force it with a full system reboot, but nothing worked. i left it alone for several hours and it eventually picked back up. Look in the Event Log (Ctrl+Shift+E from BOINC Manager) to see what you did, and what the server replied. |

Umm, did anyone remember to bring Beta back online after the outrage?... or is there a reason (not obvious to this 10+ year observer...) that it's still down? (Oct 2, 2018 9:23 AM PDT...) . Hello, from Albany, CA!... |

(Oct 2, 2018 9:23 AM PDT...)I think the outrage is only just beginning - data service stopped less than 20 minutes ago. Beta message board has been taken down already, but we haven't started yet. |

Is anyone having internet connectivity problems with BOINC and the site in general? Yesterday I noticed that BOINC had stopped uploading and now I've got lots of tasks that are Upload Pending, also noticed a lot of website timeouts and often can't login either. I've got two PCs and both are doing the same thing. It looks like more of a local problem at my end but all other internet browsing is OK. Nope, not having any issues with contacting the servers. Likely a DNS issue on your end with your ISP. You might want to edit your hosts file to include the specific Seti servers as identified by Richard in this message 1875152 Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

If you look for the folder - windows/system32/drivers/etc you should see a file 'hosts'. If you edit that file with notepad add a line at the bottom as follows - 208.68.240.118 setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu # upload server Oct 1918 . . This will bypass DNS access to SETI and address the upload server directly. Hopefully that will avoid some network problems that might be troubling you. If it works leave it for a while and later on add #<space> to the front of the line to comment it out so you will return to DNS access. If it doesn't help add the #<space> right away. The part after the # above is merely a comment to remind you it is for the upload server and when it worked, it is not necessary to add that part. . . Good luck. Stephen . . |

The next thing to do is see whether some sort of firewall is blocking the outbound connections for the Seti servers. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Heads up, I send Eric a message about the server problems that started 2 hours ago ... RTS is falling. Under 400k now. |

Thanks for sending a message to Eric. I think it is the same thing that happened last time (whatever that was). luckily RTS queue holds about 6 hours worth of WUs when full. Since it is at 374K now... less than 4 hours until nothing left to send. |

Heads up, I send Eric a message about the server problems that started 2 hours ago ... RTS is falling. Looks like whatever broke last time has broken again- same graphs have flat lined/ headed for the sky/ falling like a stone. Hope we're not going back to the old days of regular system crashes. New hardware requirements? Edit- Project should be out of work in a bit over 2 hours at the current rate. Grant Darwin NT |

Nope, not having any issues with contacting the servers. Likely a DNS issue on your end with your ISP. You might want to edit your hosts file to include the specific Seti servers as identified by Richard in this message 1875152It's only worth doing that if you have identified the specific error message "Scheduler request failed: Couldn't resolve host name". Without that, the specific solution is useless, and may cause problems later (when you've forgotten you did it). |

Edit- Project should be out of work in a bit over 2 hours at the current rate. And that's the last of them. Just resends left now. Edit- hello, there appears to be a bit more Arecibo work about. That'll help a bit, at least until all the AP work has been split. Grant Darwin NT |

Those host probably don't reply to ICMP request, i cannot ping them either. Most likely normal. Have you tried a traceroute? |

The servers are stealthed - they (deliberately) don't respond to pings. Uploads are working just fine here (UK). The best way to solve these problems is to invoke diagnostic logging: you need <http_debug>. If you're using a modern BOINC Manager, you can invoke an Event Log Options dialog with Ctrl+Shift+F Retry just one upload, then turn it off again - it gets very verbose. If you haven't got much experience in finding the smoking gun (or specific message) in a long log, open a new thread here, and post a copy of the http_debug log there: someone will decode it for you (me, if I'm around). |
