I don't see it now. I always get suspicious when a listing does not specify the CUDA cores or show a GPU-Z screenshot. Lots of knock-offs and counterfeits out there.
In many cases, the card BIOS has been tampered with. PCs will read it as a 1080, but the actual hardware is of a lesser card. I can show you a GTX 970 that is actually a GTX 710. Huge difference between 1664 CUDA cores and 192.....

Yup.

At one point I got a "gtx 750" which, when I removed the card cooler, had a gtx 550 chip in it.

Same here.

Advertised as a downclocked 970. The chip says it's a normal 550 Ti with Five 1GB memory chips.
Doesn't show a screen in macOS, works for about 10 minutes in Linux, and ran Windows 8.1 long enough to install months of updates.
Doesn't compute at all, it shows activity in boincmgr, but no results are actually recorded.
The Heatsink and fans won't fit on any of my other cards, so, a complete waste.

Greetings,

I have 5 words for this:

I don't buy from eBay!

There's a saying: "You get what you pay for." Buying from eBay is a perfect example of that. I don't care if the seller says it's brand new still in original shrink wrapped package, I wouldn't buy it. I'm sure there are some legitimate sellers on eBay, but still, I won't buy from eBay.

I don't buy refurbished either. It is new or I don't buy it.

2 Cents

Actually buying from eBay is fine, as long as it's from from a reputed seller. The cards sold from China are the problem, just don't buy a GPU from China.
I knew I was taking a chance, but it was only $47, and it actually works for just showing a screen in Windows.
I've made numerous buys of cards from US sellers, and they all worked as advertised. The Only card I've had fail was a ATI 6970 bought New, from NewEgg.
It failed quite spectacularly, and was only 1.5 years old. The other ATI 67/6800 cards from eBay are still working fine some 5 years later.

When I was building out my last system, I picked the absolute worst time when the shortage of cards hit with the mining craziness. I ended up getting a 1080Ti Hydro Copper and 1070 Hybrid Gaming from eBay and overpaid for them but at least I could get a card when they weren't available elsewhere. All of my cards were exactly as advertised, used in like new or new, sealed state in the original packaging. I got exactly what was advertised with no shenanigans.

Sorry, that was a typo. Not $35 but $375.

A better chance of being the real thing, but there is at least one listing for a new, buy it now, GTX 1080 at $ 50 US, and a bevy of auction bids in the $ 50-80 range., all from US only vendors. Bottom line remains the same: buyer beware.

You might want to go back to your original post and change the thread title. You can do that as OP I learned lately.

No argument. I do understand auction bids that low. The price usually doesn't approach a "real" number until late in the process (often the last couple of hours or minutes). I was looking at "buy it now" prices.

I have been burned a couple of times on too low to be real "buy it now" prices but eBay has usually refunded my money when nothing shipped or showed up.

I know of one 1080 I could buy, but until I have the money, I'll be content to just watch, with shipping to Me it would be $376.98, no I'm not worried, ebay has very good buyer protection, though unless it's an EVGA one can forget about a warranty from the manufacturer. And there will be more. And yes I could use it, it would be faster and use less energy and put out less heat for the 10,000 BTU window a/c to deal with.
I do have 2 PCs and a laptop(only 1 is online at present), plus a 3rd PC that is nearly finished, I just lack enough a/c and power, which I'm slowly getting fixed.

Those are posted from hacked accounts and are removed by ebay staff pretty fast.

Always watch out for scammers on eBay...look for reputable brands. EVGA, MSI, Asus, etc. Most of the fake stuff has no brand name.

If you are looking for used stuff you can always look at reddit. They have a entire subreddit dedicated to selling/buying/swapping hardware. www.reddit.com/r/hardwareswap. I personally have a couple eVGA 1080 hybrids for sale there right now and have bought and sold everything from cheap CPU's to a Titan V through there.

I'm ignorant. What is a eVGA 1080 hybrid? Specially the word "hybrid"?

Thanks.

A hybrid graphics card has both water and air cooling. There is water cooling for the GPU chip and a fan to cool the memory.

Hybrid GPUs have water cooling. Some, like mine, are AIO or All-In-One so you don't have to deal with filling radiators and what not...it is a closed loop system. They tend to run much cooler then their air-only cooling brethren. For example mine running 100% load stays around 51 - 52* C.
