For anyone running Linux on a motherboard that uses one of the popular ITE SIO chips like any of the recent ASUS motherboards, the developer of the it87 kernel mode driver has announced that he is stopping development of the driver and removing it from the Github repository the first of August. So anyone that uses that driver is advised to clone the directory to their own storage for future use. This is a sad development but the developer says he wanted to remove the current frustration with the driver for himself and the users. The driver worked well on the 1st gen motherboards like the X370 Prime Pro and the Crosshair VI Hero. But it is only able to report two fans on the 2nd generation Crosshair VII Hero motherboard because of ASUS using a proprietary chip for control of most of the motherboards fans. He also says that ASUS is vehemently anti-Linux and offers no support. So I am making a shout out to any Linux developer who thinks that they would be able to take over development and maintenance of the driver.
