The backups seem to fail during the first shadow copy at the beginning of the backup, lack of space. The sys drive is 128GB with 84GB free. the recovery partition is approx. 438MB and the shadow copy size is 0% (1GB) under system > Advance > system protection.

After many days the problem was found and corrected. The shadowcopy size determined by Windoze was too small. Deleted all shadow copies and resized the shadowcopy to 2% (2.37GB).
