Erics post here had me thinking about the people i've told about Seti@Home. Family, friends and co-workers, and the responses have varied from "cool" to being ghosted (because God created man not aliens). What have your experiences been so far dear readers, and how thick is your tin foil hat? ![]() Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. ![]() |

My mother, who died last year, was always a big supporter of everything I was interested in, and she herself was very curious and liked to read and gain education in science like this. My dad was also, but he passed away in 1982, when I was only 13, so he didn't get to share as many cool things that have happened since then as my mother and I did together. My other friends listen to me, and may read some links I send them about this stuff, and I don't think they see me as nutty, but it's just not in their scope of interest. ![]() |

I have given talks at colleges and service clubs. I am sure there were some people who thought I was nuts but I keep getting asked back so someone likes my story. ![]() |

What have your experiences been so far dear readers, and how thick is your tin foil hat? Oh I've asked religious people on other types of forums, if we verified intelligent transmissions from other parts of the galaxy or beyond with this project how it might affect their belief. They usually just claim it would reinforce it because to them it means that god created more souls than we knew about. Who can limit god's creativity they say. I'm putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all, I think, that any conscious entity can ever hope to do. |

What have your experiences been so far dear readers, and how thick is your tin foil hat? That's how I look at it. Remember when the Pope tried to excommunicate Galileo for saying the Earth moved around the Sun and not the other way round, as so many believed at the time? How arrogant we must be to think God created only us, only on this one world. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |
