The United States House of Representatives is proposing that 10 million dollars a year be spent, so that NASA can seriously pursue the goal of searching for radio signals from extraterrestrial civilizations.

This is a sharp contrast to 1993, when U.S. government funding for SETI was cut to nothing, only a year after such a program had begun.

This proposal still has to make it's way through the House, and then the Senate, and funding must then actually be allocated to support the proposal.

And guess they could be still wearing shoes, next for that of the Senate as well.

Looks like that money is going to the SETI Institute and not SETI@home.

They are "visible scientists", we are not.

Perhaps we should get one of our more charismatic members to appear on the Science Channel and late night talk shows. He (she) could expound on the billions of intelligent civilizations in the Galaxy and the fact that it is a certainty that we will find one within the next few months. Where is Carl Sagan when we need him?

The money should go to where there is a co-ordinated, scientifically sound effort to decrypt the contents (if any) of every strong, narrow band emission that appears to be of extra-terrestrial origin.

I cannot watch American TV, only Italian and Swiss TV but every time SETI is mentioned it is always the SETI Institute. There was a meeting lately with personalities like Francis Drake and Italian astronomers also took part but SETI@home was ignored. I try to mention it in a blog on "Le Scienze" Magazine online copy, an Italian edition of "Scientific American", but I have scarce responses from the audience.

I receive the monthly Berkeley Online Newsletter with many information on Berkeley activities but SETI@home is never mentioned. Why?
