HA!
That's my country, Spaghettilandia. Dear Sirius, there is an impressive level of corruption and malfeasance.
No doubt, the CEO or business owner of companies, whether small, medium or large, prefer to save money, put them in their pockets and
others .... lo prendono in **** ( take it in the a$$).

Howdy,

I got a question for you all.

The 'company' involved here... ATAC SpA... Is ATAC SpA what we would call a 'publicly traded corporation' (as implied by the SpA), or is it a Government Agency, or a combination of the two??

In the Dallas Texas area, I can recall a few bus fires (about 5 over the last 10 years) but nowhere near the 22 ATAC had in Rome last year, or the 9 they have had so far this year.

Yes, I know that Rome is about 4 times the population of Dallas, and ATAC has almost 4 times as many buses as DART, but dayum.... something ain't right here. 1 bus fire here on average every 2 years... multiply by 4 to scale up to the population and number of buses... thats 2 bus fires a year.... far cry from the 22 ATAC had last year...

And yes, for the record, DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) is a Government Agency. Not Federal... Not State... but Local. They are supported by a combination of the fares and (to help hold fares down to a level that is affordable) taxes. We don't have a problem doing maintenance on our buses... Why does Rome?

Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016.

Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power.

ROFLMAO...

Things are that way all over.... DART had 1 billion US$ go 'missing'.... The DART chairperson resigned... Corruption involving the Dallas City Council, specifically campaign finance misdeeds involving the Mayor of Dallas's campaign... The DART Chairperson got arrested and charged with tampering with a government record involving said corruption... Shortly thereafter the DART Chairperson and her husband were found dead in a 'murder-suicide'.

And you all think only Federal politics in the USA is a circus show? HAH!

There is much difference to government level between italy and USA. Roma Capitale is a special entity territorial, a metropolitan city (more big of a simply municipality). ATAC is a municipal transport (the Capitol is 100% shareholder) managed by an institution of the State.
The employees are politicians or trade unionists and represents a tank of votes during the elections. The money for maintenance is not there because managers and who knows how many others have pharaonic salaries.

S.p.A. = Società per Azioni, a limited company with legal personality and perfect patrimonial autonomy, in which the shareholdings of the shareholders are represented by transferable securities: the shares.

In the joint-stock company, the share capital is divided into a certain number of shares, each of which incorporates a certain share of participation and social rights inherent in the share itself. There may be different types of actions, differentiated by the rights they incorporate.
All shareholders are shareholders who are owners of one or more shares.
ATAC is the company that runs most of the public transportation network in Rome and its surrounding municipalities.

The crisis in 2017
In 2017, the company has accumulated a debt amounting to 1.3 billion euro, so on 27 September of the same year the bankruptcy court has accepted the request for a credit agreement and then ATAC will have to present an industrial plan to avert the hypothesis of bankruptcy that would leave millions of passengers on foot.

The concordat
Several unions are opposed to the arrangement, and AGCM is also against the procedure that would result in an extension of the ATAC contract beyond the current deadline (2019) without the regular tendering procedure. The disagreement of the unions is manifested in the many strikes proclaimed by the workers, many of which have been deferred or reduced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport or the Prefecture of Rome Capital.

Well, if the swamp on both sides of the pond can be drained efficiently, there'll be plenty of CO2 to last the Summer months. :-)

If not, I wonder who'll be the 1st to place high tariffs on any that is imported.

Guess: Clyde

That's not a guess, that's fact. He always has to try and have the last word even if it adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.

Just look at the evidence, if the Politics threads have been quiet for several hours and then suddenly there is a flurry of activity in 8 threads, you can bet your bottom dollar that Clyde has just woken up and feels is he must have his say on everything and anything.

Gary's and your post, is what you attack me for. :-D :-D :-D

If Gary, yourself, Sirius B., the Monosyllabic Grunting Ones had the capability to discuss differences of opinions without your/their need to personally attack. The intellectual level of discussion would have risen way above what you wish.

Sorry, Nick, Gary, Sirius B. and the Monosyllabic Grunting Ones. Your attempt to silence those you disagree with you. Will fail miserably.

Now continue with your disagreement with my beliefs without silly attacks.

If you and the other Monosyllabic Grunting Ones can't control yourselves in your posts. Back to your normal.

It was not an attack it was merely my carefully considered thoughts based on my observations.

It is you controlled your posts you might find there will be a lot less critical observations. We don't need to read the same old comments time and time again. If we were not convinced the first time, then consider modifying and changing your arguments.

In the past I had a post hidden by the mods because I said a good teacher knows, that if the lesson hasn't got the message across, it is time to rewrite the lesson plan.
It was taken as an attack on you because of your stated place of employment. It was never considered that I spent over ten years instructing and guiding students and actually do know what I am talking about.

My post also could have been read as an imperative*. When you see yourself in smoke and react to it, your true nature is revealed.

* Grammar denoting the mood of a verb that expresses a command or exhortation, as in come here!

That brings to mind an incident that occurred close to 40 years ago. Over a short period, I was assigned to assist the squadron sergeant(signals) in setting up the squadron's communications. Enjoyed it & watched everything he did. At the end of the squadron exercise, he noticed my interest & asked if I would consider attending a radio course. Of course, my answer was yes. Point trying to make is not only a safety one but how with some people a "little knowledge" makes them dangerous! Read on.

2nd day of the course, the instructor asked a question, what I cannot recall exactly, but I replied: Radiation. The amount of laughter & ridicule that brought forth was comical I must admit.

However, the instructor asked to me explain my reply. I asked the soldier that started the ridicule to come forward & wrap his hand tightly around the antenna, As he did so I told him, hold tight while I hit the PTT. :-)

Fortunately for him the instructor knew what I intended to do but slightly worried that I would act & ordered him to let go of the antenna - I'm not that stupid. :-) During our smoke break, the instructor told him what would have happened had I hit the PTT. For the rest of that course, no more laughter or ridicule.

Between you, me & the goalpost, I would've hit that PTT if I knew I could have got away with it :-) Some people.....
...as to what would've happened Nick knows :-) Do you guys?
