Wondering if anyone knows what version of the BOINC Manager got the "Finish file present too long" fix? 7.16.3 and above, I believe. ![]() ![]() |

Definitely should do a It's been fun, eveyone. I managed to squeak out 200M! didn't think I would make it... didn't manage 1M on a single core I was trying for (sigh) - thought there would be more time. Maybe in my next multiverse Member of the 20 Year Club ![]() ![]() |

The Newer Macs with many CPU cores seem to getting quite a few of these, https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8876600. From My observations, the Finish File error happens more often with machines running many CPU tasks. Machines running mainly GPUs receive them much less often. So, what's going to happen with the Macs? They are still looking at 7.14.4 as the most recent version, https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.phpTa.Wondering if anyone knows what version of the BOINC Manager got the "Finish file present too long" fix?The client code was merged into the sources from which the client is built on Mar 30, 2019, with a second ('belt and braces') fix on Oct 18, 2019. |

Thanks for the information Grant. Is this system running Linux or Windows?Windows. Doesn't appear to be any difference between OS, all the RACs are ridiculous. Grant Darwin NT |

Thanks Grant. Yes I have to agree with you it is quite ridiculous ![]() |

If nothing is wrong with the GPU itself, probably the windows update the driver and you loose something in the process. First clue. DL a new fresh driver from the Nvidia Site and install it using a clean installation. But avoid the Release 445 driver there is a bug in on it who causes problem while you crunch some SETI WU. You could read about in this thread: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=84694 ![]() |

Thanks juan, I'll try that if I have to... Somehow is's sorted itself out, running again! |

Thanks juan, I'll try that if I have to... Somehow is's sorted itself out, running again! When you have something like this, is a good practice to reset the host and do a cold boot. Sometimes the driver crash without warning. If that is the case that solves the problem. Maybe that is what happening. Nice is working. ![]() |

For the only time, I have the 1% badge! Not a great thing for me to hang my hat on, but still surprising. Seti@home classic: 1,456 results, 1.613 years CPU time |

Well, BOINC's new server didn't last very long, did it? |

Now though, it can be considered dead.Stillborn, perhaps. There was a news post from David Anderson this morning, thanking Jeff Cobb for the help in setting up a new server. |

Greetings, I have 3 devices still hooked up, my main this PC doing Rosetta, my laptop still doing SETI and my Pi-3 which is not doing BOINC at all. I have Pi-Hole installed and running on my Pi-3 and it is doing the DNS work and blocking shady places on the Internet. My router is set to look at the Pi for the DNS and all other devices go through the router going through the Pi DNS. I did not have to change the DNS lookup on each device, too much work. I shoulda done this a long time ago. ;) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. My i7-4790K CPU is now idle, and down to 33°C/91.4°F (AIO cooler) Interesting it's the first time I've heard of the power company contacting someone to see if something is wrong (said with tongue-in-cheek) ![]() |

My i7-4790K CPU is now idle, and down to 33°C/91.4°F (AIO cooler) If you are a big user and suddenly the power used drops below some warning level they certainly does. But is more likely instead of a SMS they send an inspection to your premises to see if you make any "unwanted" deviation. Happened with me when i moved to here and shut down my little farm in Brazil and my son remains living on my old apt. In the beginning they even send few bills calculated my the mean of the power usage of 12 months instead of the real one. I was forced to rise a revision request and prove why my electric usage drops so much. They even change the electric meter to be sure the old one was not tempered. At the end they accept my allegations and recalculate all the bills back to my move month. ![]() |

LOL, mine sends me a graph each month showing me how much more energy I use than my neighbors. Wonder if that will now end? ![]() ![]() |

Interesting maybe you could look at contributing to another project? I know world community Grid is going to have a covert 19 projects so only on CPU Rosetta@home already is processing covert 19 also on CPU ![]() |

So, I joined Einstein@home, Rosetta@home and GPUgrid now, but set the resource share for Set@home to 100,000 so the remaining tasks and resends get processed as quickly as possible (as well as in hope that when S@H should be pulled out of hibernation anytime in the future, I will unexpectedly suddenly crunch for this project again). Interesingly, only Einstein@home is giving me new tasks - looks like Rosetta@home and GPUgrid dont actually have enough work for the sudden rise of hosts because of the stop of S@H "flash mob". But I know noticed some odd behaviour of the boinc client: I have 4 CPU cores but limited memory. When Computer is in use, Boinc Client is set to only 50% Memory usage. So it is processing now only 1 Einstein@home task, 3 are "waiting for memory". But there would be more than enough memory to process 3 Seti@home tasks in parallel to the 1 Einstein@home task. Yet the client won't do that, I wonder why. It looks like a bug in the BOINC Client to me.... |
