Siran: IIRC buried very deep in the preferences there is a option to turn on or off some voice notifications. I just can't remember where it is located. Might be part of the taskbar, but I'm guessing.

Hi Gary,

Thanks! I'm really not worried about it. I just don't want the laptop using nanoprobes and invasive software taking over my farm and starting Skynet. lol ;) I may just check into the settings anyway. :)

Have a great day! :)

Microsoft was around before the Borg. I remember a BBS Mag named "BoardWatch" with a photoshopped picture of Bill Gates in a Borg-like head covering with a Similar we will assimilate you message.

Good grief, haven't thought of BoardWatch in years. Trying to remember the name of the guy who ran it. Jack something-or-other, I think. Used to see him at FidoNet meetings ...

Google and Wikipedia can be really helpful. Sometimes. You remembered his first name. I couldn't even remember that.

Yes, I was a Fido-net node running various BBS software's up to TBBS at the end.

Ah Yes, the joys of TBBS. Makes me wonder what PHBBS would have been if Phil Becker had coded it. Ran it on Trash-80s starting with V1.0, and ended up on 2.2M32 before finally pulling the plug in 2008 or so. Still have the urge from time to time to resurrect the old system, as telnet only on a cruncher. Never had much luck getting TIAD to run, though, and hardware network terminal servers are messy.
Anybody want some really great ISA Bus digiboards cheap?

Got a couple 12 port Boca Boards still in the shrink wrap, even. Bought them for resale with the Sysop discount, never sold 'em. :(

Message 2020024 - Posted: 22 Nov 2019, 1:27:01 UTC

got a newer machine! I threw seti on it and it seems to be working well. I'm going to look at the command line options this weekend, but if anyone wants to give me some suggestions I'm all ears. I'm not running on the gpu, only the 4 cpus. I think if I want to run on the gpu I need to replace the driver as I am on mac, so I'll do that later. I'm not sure if it is worth running on the gpu, or just the 4 cpus as I think they need a portion of gpu support.

If I'm off the deep end on my assumptions, feel free to let me know. - thanks.

GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4278U CPU @ 2.60GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 69 Stepping 1]
(4 processors)

Well, you have doubled the # of cpu cores you have available for processing on a single machine. And it probably has enough of a more efficient cpu instruction set that I bet you get more than the 2Ghz to 2.6Ghz bump in performance.

So your average cpu processing speed could be nearer to 3 or less hours compared to the other system.
I am going to claim you should see a RAC close to triple (or higher?) what your current system is running.

Bonus if you can get a discrete gpu running when you are not using the machine (Boinc can be set to suspend gpu processing when you are active). The internal gpu on most Intel cpus will slow the whole machines production down if you start crunching with it.

Just think if you get completely carried away you might find yourself with a machine battling for a spot in the Top 40 list. ;)

Greetings,

I just installed Psensor.

I have a PWM fan connector on my CPU motherboard connector. That connection is for my 2 radiator fans connected through a Y cable through the AiO pump housing. If I type "sensors" in terminal it reports 0 RPM for the CPU fan. Psensor also reports 0 RPM for the CPU. How can this be if my fans are both spinning? Is it because I am using 2 fans on the CPU_FAN connection?

Have a great day! :)

a PWM fan header has 4 pins. only 2 pins are required to provide power and "spin" the fans. the 3rd pin is the rpm signal wire, and the 4th is the PWM control pin.

if your Y-splitter is only providing the power to the fans, and not sending back the RPM signal, then you wont get an RPM reading on the motherboard.
