I guess we won't see those until the official release day for the 3080 on the 17th.

Well, Nvidia have announced their new hardware.
Now i'm waiting for some reviews to see just how they actually perform.

Hi Grant,

Yep, I'm also waiting on the reviews.

According to what I have seen, I'm leaning toward a 3070 since it is supposed to have about twice the efficiency of the 2080 Ti. Cheapest 2080 Ti I saw was about $1400 bucks new on Newegg. The 3070 is supposed to be priced at about $500 bucks. :)

Have a great day! :)

You won't see the MSRP prices for a couple of months unless you pre-order. Same price gouging will take place from the limited availability like we saw with Turing.

If that is the case, good luck with hammering the F5 key. It will be another free for all in who gets lucky with actually snagging a gpu.

Interesting commentary over at the Hardware Unboxed YT site about the nature of the 2X CUDA core count. May be some shakeup in the use of double the FP32 registers at the same time or simultaneous FP32 or Int32 instructions compared to what Turing did.

Matches up well with the actual gaming performance tests done so far as they are not seeing 2X gaming uplift because of 2X CUDA core count increase. Actual uplifts are coming in around 70-80% which is likely if you are doing simultaneous FP32 and Int32 instructions and not managing 2X FP32 all the time.

i think so too. luckily I live close to a microcenter, so I would assume they will have some on launch day. I'm most interested in the 3070 though, and i want to see what kind of configurations and prices that EVGA will come with.

I saw GN mention that the EVGA Hybrid cards will use 240 radiators. So a lot more difficult fitting multiples of those in a case.

Eventually, maybe.
But sometime this year? I doubt it.

Ryzen 7 4800U Review.

Intel Tiger Lake CPUs are set to arrive soon which will put the company back in contention, but with such dominant performance from AMD, Tiger Lake will likely be more about catching up to Ryzen on this generation.

I really am looking forward to Zen3 on the desktop.

I am very curious about what percentage of uplift Zen 3 will be over Zen 2. Rumored to have 2X the floating point performance of Zen 2. I wonder if the majority of that is from the change in the CCX architecture and the unified L3 cache.
Saw a rumor that there will be a 10 core SKU in between the normal 8 and 12 cores SKUs. This is from Ram Calculator developer 1usmus from viewing the latest unreleased 1.0.0.8 AGESA code he has access to as a developer.

I think these new Vermeer cpus will have no problem dispatching TigerLake cpus to the "also ran" categories.

For CPU crunching projects, for those that don't wan to wait for the next Ryzen series to be released.
128 threads at 4.0GHz, sustained.

today AMD and SPEC is announcing that the Magnetar X64T workstation, a system that you can buy, will off-the-shelf give the best performance in SPECworkstation3 ever seen.

From a news article at Phoronix,

Via Twitter, AMD shared that "a new journey begins" for Zen 3 on October 8 while for RDNA 2 the date listed is October 28.

Pull up the Manager settings from the 3 bars and select Projects and then set NNT or no new tasks for the project you are having issues with.

They bought ARM from Softbank. ARM stands for Advanced Risc Machine but it stood for Acorn Risc Machine when I saw an Acorn PC in 1985 in Hannover. Olivetti held the right for ARM microprocessors and was foolish enough to sell it. Now ARM microprocessors power 95% of the world cell phones, but Olivetti did not believe in cell phones. I have used a MIPS Risc minicomputer when working in Trieste Research Area from 1991 to 1995 and know what a Risc computer can do. Risc stands for Reduced Instruction Set Computer.

Most of the commentary I have read is that everyone is afraid that Nvidia will become a juggernaut setting industry standards for cloud computing with AI with a close tie-in between their advanced ARM cpus driving their gpus. Not going to be a challenger in the desktop cpu wars between Intel and AMD probably.
