Generally for a maximum sustained load on a PSU you want it to be no more than 75% of the units rating.Back up & crunching. Was concerned a bit when delivery arrived & had to check my account. I made a mistake in my original post, ordered 700w not 750w. Unpacked then installed it & ended up with heart in mouth. :-( It wouldn't boot, no post signal, nada. All connected correctly, so kept hitting the soft reboot button. After several attempts, it booted up so entered bios, all drives connected. Booted into O/S all's well. :-) Must've been a mischievous gremlin. Aborted 89 of the 102 tasks as they wouldn't make the deadline, crunching last 2 now. |

. . I had hoped that with no further crunching to do some of the more enthisiastic people would have made a meeting place out of a thread, maybe such as this one ??? Stephen ? ? |

Rob is number 47 by total credit, Wiggo is number 90, I'm number 140, Stephen is number 144 - I think we've all done our fair share of posting. |

Me thinks that someone is getting very narrow sighted and misses the obvious somehow with accusations like that. Cheers. |

The volume of message traffic has plummeted for sure. I visit every day to see if any new posts have surfaced. Rarely. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I had hoped that with no further crunching to do some of the more enthisiastic people would have made a meeting place out of a thread, maybe such as this one ???IMHO, I think that crunchers suffered a double blow, the hibernation of the project & the pandemic forcing them to focus more on themselves & those they care for. As a result, DC takes a lower priority. One thing is for certain, if I had partner who suffered from COPD, I certainly would not be so flippant over lockdown procedures. |

FWIW, I wish they had not shutdown the scheduler server so soon. I would've like to seen all tasks in the wild timeout & report, as well as keep my stats current. |

I'm still here. I've subscribed to a couple of threads so I get notified in boinc when there are new posts. I miss this place. The joy of lots of work, the wondering how long Tuesday's maintenance/backup window would be, and the shared frustration of down time. It made me feel like part of a clan. I don't crunch much with one slow machine, but still there was a place for me. I don't know when I'll feel that again. I crunch at World Community Grid. I'm on a team. I love the monthly updates from the scientists. I love the silly badges, but this is still where I know I can get computer help/ boinc help quickly. I hope everyone is doing ok. This world is so weird now. Stay safe and keep crunching and come back to tell the tales p.s. I got my gold badge in openpandemics on WCG |

Its great to see you are here as well Unichick. I devoted my CPU reources to 'smash childhood cancer' but those tasks dried up so I moved to the general cancer project and eventually added the open_pandemics project but FWIW I now have my bronze badge in that :). But stay healthy and stay with us. Stephen :) |

Warning! . . I was using Avast as my virus checker and everything has been very well for the last 4 years, but since it's last update several days ago it has taken a dislike to boinc.exe. I have tried to get it to see boinc.exe as an exception but it won't take and it continues to kill boinc.exe and manager, so in the end I had to remove it and go to another checker. The reason it gives for the antagonism to boinc.exe is "behaviour problem". . . So just in case others are running Windows and relying on Avast keep an eye on it. Stephen :( |

Warning! Hi Stephen, I quit using those third party "free" AV programs. The last one I used was Avast and I got tired of it constantly harassing me to get the paid version. I use the built in security software in Windows 10, when I do run it only for gaming. I don't use any in Linux Mint. At least I don't think I am. I haven't even looked for any. I know it has a firewall and don't know it that is even being used. ;) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. In Linux, you have ClamAV as a anti-virus application. In most distro software catalogs as far as I know. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Hi Keith, Long time no see. ;) I just looked in the Software Manager and there's something like a dozen or more different things to install for ClamAV... Uh oh, I see I have an update that needs doing. There's a red dot on my update manager. I just upgraded to Linux Mint v20 Ulyana. So far, looking and doing great. Everything runs as they did in v19.3. I'm even back to using Firefox without the headaches it was giving when I changed to Chromium. Chromium disappeared so I decided to try Firefox again which didn't disappear. Good so far. :) I sure wish there was a new and improved SETI@Home for us. I don't like seeing my stats stuck in limbo as they are, as everyone's are. :( Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. In Linux, you have ClamAV as a anti-virus application. In most distro software catalogs as far as I know. The "AV" for Linux actually checks only/mainly for cleaning up and avoiding passing on any Microsoft Windows viruses... ClamAV is good, especially if set up to also check any email attachments that you might get. In the Linux world, we're still at the point where 'Anti-Virus' checks are more trouble than their effectiveness. (Similarly so for Apple systems for similar reasons.) Personally, on a Linux system, I definitely would never touch any "AV" that performs real-time on-access virus scanning for the sake of it being a complete waste of time and resource!! More of a problem are malware exploits and malware add-ons (and malware advertising!) attacking whatever web browser you are using... The 'AV' for Linux/*nix that there is checks instead for what are called "root kits". For example, see pretty much the only one checker(!): chkrootkit General details are described on: Wikipedia: Rootkit As for why there is no 'AV support industry' supporting Linux? See: Wikipedia: Linux malware For those concerned, the 'best way to stay safe online' is:
