A recent Firefox update did upset a few things :-( Hi Rob, I have Firefox set to just let me know that there's an update, then I allow the update to happen. Unless... Mozilla pulled a Micro$oft and changed that setting to just do the updates without my intervention after the last update... Nah, I don't think they would do that. Unless... that last update I got a week or so ago is what you are telling me about and did the snafu on me... Hmmm :\ Well, I hope that what I have now has been fixed. :) Thanks for the heads up and have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. My Newsfeed says Mozilla forgot to renew an intermediate security certification. When it expired so did the ability to run the Addons. A fix is in progress. Apparently you can also disable the flag so the browser stops checking that security item. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Hi Tom, Ok, I googled it and found the fix. It is: For Firefox users that are currently impacted by this bug, an easy workaround would be to visit the about:config section and set xpinstall.signatures.required to false. This disables the extension signing mechanism in Firefox, the system through which the browser verifies that the local extension is one that's been installed from the central Mozilla Add-ons repository --and for which the signing certificate had expired. I have set mine to false just in case my new install isn't a fixed one or whatever. Any Firefox users should be careful installing any new add-ons / extensions after making this settings change. I always make sure that I'm installing them from Mozilla. If I go somewhere and someone wants to install an add-on, I don't allow it. I surely hope this gets fixed soon so I can re-enable the verification. Thanks Tom and have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. -[ snip ]--[ snip ]- Greetings, Mozilla has since released a fix for the add-ons problem: A Firefox release has been pushed — version 66.0.4 on Desktop and Android, and version 60.6.2 for ESR. This release repairs the certificate chain to re-enable web extensions, themes, search engines, and language packs that had been disabled (Bug 1549061). There are remaining issues that we are actively working to resolve, but we wanted to get this fix out before Monday to lessen the impact of disabled add-ons before the start of the week. More information about the remaining issues can be found by clicking on the links to the release notes above. (May 5, 16:25 EDT) I have since re-enabled the certificate check after the update to v66.0.4. Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? Greetings, I don't know what is going on, but I'm seeing a major drop in overall and individual RAC. Anyone else seeing this? Several days ago, perhaps 5 or 6, my overall RAC was on the verge of hitting 70K. My Windoze PC was at 36K+ and my Linux PC had just barely hit 32K. My Pis and tablet pretty much remained the same as now. Gradually, since then, my RACs have been going down. My current overall is down to just under 67K, my Windoze PC barely over 34K and the Linux PC just under 32K. And they are still dropping. The only change I made was I increased the number of running WUs on my Windoze PC GPU to 2 in the hopes that that would stabilize the RAC. It hasn't, that RAC is still going down. Could this be caused by whatever WUs we are working on for the past several days? I know little about what the WUs are, just that some come from Green Bank, etc. I could look at my current cache on my Windoze PC and not tell where they even came from. Ok, they came from SETI, duh. I mean where the data tapes that were split into these WUs came from. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate where my RAC is at. It's much better than in years past. It's just that I have been watching my RAC steadily going up and before this sudden drop, the rise started slowing down and I figured I was getting to a stabilized level. But now, it's dropping considerably faster than when it was climbing. Any thoughts? Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. While on a steady diet of GBT work everyone's RAC is suffering and when Arecibo work arrives everyone's RAC goes up. It's been like this ever since the intro of GBT work. Cheers. |

For GBT read blc, when looking at BOINC Manager. |

nice shortish shutdown. very nice. good work seti team. Looks like we will get new work sometime this week. We won't get any Aricebo data until after May 17, and I think we have finished groundhog day (blc files for day 58406). I hope we get a chance to chew through some of the files that have been in the list for a while if only to placate my ocd (why isn't it fifo in the file splitting queue?) What will we get next?? |

The Seti staff is starting to spoil us with these short outages. We shouldn't get too complacent I think since Mr. Murphy always has the ability to appear at any moment. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

We just got some new files to split blc25 for day 58340 and blc25 for 58405/6 (aka groundhog day). This should keep us busy for the next 2-3weeks. |

Greetings, I believe it's time to get a new laptop. The current one is from 2006 with a Core 2 Duo Intel and ATI graphics. I upgraded the RAM a few years ago to max it out. Yesterday I decided to re-purpose the SSD I had on my #1 Pi thus replacing the 80GB Toshiba HDD. All went well. I tried to install Linux Mint, but that was a no go the CPU is 32bit. So, I opted for the only legal OS that I have and that was Windows 7 Home Premium w/SP1. All went well. The boot time is much less than with the HDD. BOMB! I went to get updates going and it said something about installing something "new". I don't remember what it was, well, because I wasn't expecting any problems. Hey, it's Windows 7 after all! Right? I got this error: 'WindowsUpdate_8007000E" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"' I used DuckDuckGo to find the error and found an entry on the Micro$oft forum. It had me install 2 more things which did not fix the problem. So I put the laptop away for the day and decided to get the 32bit version of Linux Mint. Today, used Rufus to burn the ISO to a bootable 8GB flash drive. No problem there. Got the laptop out and plugged in the flash drive and went into the BIOS to have it boot from that drive. First thing I saw was 4 errors that had something to do with something not available. Again, do not remember since this time it was Linux gibberish. It did eventually boot to Linux only to have the desktop crash. I rebooted and tried again. Same thing. OK, shut down and pulled the drive and changed the BIOS again and booted into Win7. I tried another procedure I found on the Micro$oft forum that was supposed to fix the update problem. Started with: sfc /scannow. It found 2 identical files in 2 different locations that had something to do with the help system that are corrupted. Solution was to find the same known good file on another computer running Win7 and do a bunch of taking ownership and copying the files and stuff. Don't have another computer running Win7. Only other thing is to re-install Win7. I put the laptop away, yet again for another day. Whatever it was that Win7 had me do to get Windows Updates going screwed things up. I will re-install Win7 tomorrow... unless... the repair Windows menu selection will fix the problem? Will it? Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? When sfc /scannow does not fix things, you follow it up with Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth https://www.ghacks.net/2018/03/16/use-dism-to-fix-issues-sfc-cant/ Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

When sfc /scannow does not fix things, you follow it up with Hi Keith, Ok, I'll try that tomorrow. I've been doing more searching and decided to double check the CPU. It's not a Core 2 Duo, it's a Pentium Dual Core. Now I gotta redo all my searches. :( Thanks again and have a great day! :) Siran [edit] Is it me? It's gotta be me! /Cleanup-Image, /ScanHealth and /RestoreHealth do not exist in Dism's list of options. And, the options that ARE in Dism's list of options, are not recognized by Dism. Go figure!!! [/edit] [edit2] Windows 7 dism is different than the Windows 10 version which has more commands and options. And it too tells me that, in Windows 10's case, /List-Image is not recognized my dism. :| [/edit2] CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L.
