Now that was a blast from the past. Brings back similar memories of past computer builds from that era.

So being bored I decided to watch some movies. Found this movie called "The Beyond" Aliens, etc... What caught my eye was they were using screen shoots of the Seti@home Boinc screen saver

I believe the user is David and CPU run time is 52 hours 15 minutes, 45 seconds. Recorded Sun Feb 21 17:00 hours

Anyway, thought I would share hahaha...

Intel's limited edition Core i7-8086K can hit 5GHz without overclocking

This anniversary edition CPU celebrates 40 years of Intel's x86 architecture.

We're all on pins and ball grid arrays waiting for Intel to introduce its long awaited 10nm Cannon Lake architecture in mass quantities, but that will have to wait until next year. In the meantime, the company has a couple of other interesting products up its sleeve. One is a 28-core/56-thread single-socket chip that you can read more about here, and the other is a limited edition Core i7-8086K processor that can ramp up to 5GHz without overclocking.

... "The Intel Core i7-8086K Limited Edition processor is more than just a commemorative processor. It celebrates Intel’s legacy of industry-leading performance by featuring our first 6-core, 12-thread processor with integrated graphics in an 1151-pin package supporting a 64-bit instruction set," Intel explains (PDF). "The Intel Core i7-8086K processor is also the first Intel processor to deliver up to 5.0 GHz single-core turbo frequency out of the box, fully unlocked for overclocking."

Some of the news from Computex includes Threadripper 2, 32cores/64 threads. And a 28 core/56 thread all at 5GHz demo CPU & board from Intel. Before you get too excited about the Intel system, keep in mind they were using a 1.8kW water chiller to keep it happy.

I'm glad I'm not the one who has to go and swap a faulty stick of RAM.

OK! I never did have an original 8086 processor from Intel. My first was the 486 DX2 66. I WANT ONE OF THESE!!!

Question is, will it run in my Z370 motherboard or will I need a new one with the Z390 chipset? Questions, questions, nothing but questions... I will research this for sure! :)

Thanks for posting this Sirius! :)

Siran

[edit] Regardless, I want one even if I do have to get yet a new motherboard. :) [/edit]

Well, all I can find is that 2 tech websites say the 8086K will run on 300 series chipset motherboards. I did see one comment on a site were the guy said 300 series (not 370). I do tend to ignore some comments soooooo... We'll see. I'll keep looking.

Me too! :)

I seldom win on anything like this. Here's hopin' a new trend emerges. :)

I too never owned an original 8086, but my Tandy 1000 HX ran a 8088. It also has a first generation 16 color monitor. I had complete strangers knock on my apartment door to see it. 256 K RAM expandable to 640 K and a 1200 baud modem. Amazing how far we've come...

The 8088 had an 8 bit external bus while the 8086 had a 16 bit bus. Thing is, they were both 16 bit architecture. Motorola came out with the 68000, a 32 bit processor, the same year as the 8088.

Here's an interesting story about the 8088
