Georges Méliès is the subject of today's Google Doodle (Variety, Google archive). They have used some new technology this time, for 360 degree virtual reality (if you have the right toys of course). This is quite appropriate to celebrate an early pioneer of film special effects. He created some of the earliest science fiction films. Méliès appears to have been a pretty all-round genius.
