1st:
Consider the date, location & the event.

2nd:
You are a police officer. Would you ask such an asinine question?
Describing how officers eventually questioned her after half a day in custody, Ms Chambers said: "They asked me, 'What were you doing on the Mall?' I explained everything and they looked at each other in shock."

This beggars belief

Yep sadly a little 5'2", 45kg, 98yr old woman armed with a wheelie walker and butter knife must of been far too much for the big boy to handle.

WTH is wrong with the world?
Are we breeding a race of super wimps?

I can recall one frail old lady who was more than capable of scaring any would be assailant, especially if said would be assailant (or rather group of assailants) thought they had more right to her pension than she did and she had her trusty walnut root walking stick in hand - lots of blood was shed, and none of it was hers.

True, I can also recall similar stories from the 70's & 80's.
However, that officer was not alone.
Common sense would have had them approach her from the side.
1 left & 1 right.
ALSO, it highlights a major problem in the West which is becoming more prevalent.
Inefficient care homes.

It's not only police officers but the judiciary itself one has to wonder about.
Child and public health researcher Professor Fiona Stanley says: "It is deeply concerning that medical and scientific evidence has been ignored, in preference of circumstantial evidence.
Whoa, wait a minute...
...hasn't forensics used science for close to 40 years greatly assisted in solving crimes, namely, DNA?
Oh dear

Must be nice to use the same lame excuse 44 times to avoid tickets.
This Chicago Cop Got Out Of 44 Tickets By Saying Over And Over That His Girlfriend Stole His Car

Chicago police officer Jeffrey Kriv used the same alibi to contest dozens of traffic tickets over the years. A deeper look at his career sheds light on Chicago’s troubled history of police accountability.

... snip...

It took a tip to an outside agency and questions about Kriv’s testimony as a private citizen in traffic court to unravel his career.

A spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department would not comment for this story or answer any questions.

Mayor Daley?

If you're referring to 'old man' Richard J. Daley (1902 - 1976), I doubt there's any connection. Being Chicago, anything is remotely possible.

Or are you thinking of his son, Richard M. Daley, who also was mayor of Chicago for 5+ terms.

This corrupt cop used & abused his 'police powers' way to many times over many years to get away with his crimes without possibly having help in higher up places.

Just another rotten egg.

Ex-NYPD detective is charged with allegedly helping robbers, who targeted Asian Americans, avoid arrest.

A former New York Police Department detective took bribes from a group to of robbers help them evade arrest in a string of robberies targeting Asian American small businesses, federal prosecutors alleged Thursday.

Saul Arismendy De La Cruz, a former NYPD officer and then detective, aided a “violent theft crew” led by Dagoberto Soto-Ramirez by taking bribes in exchange for helping members of the four-person group avoid arrest, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York said in press release.

His lawyer, Howard Turner, told NBC News that De La Cruz has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

“My client is entitled to the presumption of innocence and a fair trial, and I ask the public to withhold judgment as I evaluate and gather evidence while the judicial process continues,” Turner said in a statement.

From 2017 to 2022, the robbery crew committed a series of home invasion robberies and residential burglaries that primarily targeted the owners of small businesses, according to the indictment, filed in federal court in White Plains, New York. The majority of the targets were Asian American.

The group, armed with guns and other weapons, stole money, jewelry and other property from dozens of homes across the country, the indictment charged.....
