Message 2068216 - Posted: 12 Feb 2021, 9:18:49 UTC - in response to Message 2068215.

I think I'd be more annoyed if I saw fit young(er) men and women turning up for a jab, without any visible explanation for their priority over the 65+ cohort.

65+ invitations are supposed to be starting today, but I received a phone call from the local medical centre yesterday, and I was offered an appointment for Saturday. I'll be taking it up.

Is the jab at the medical centre?

Is the jab at the medical centre?
That's the plan. I've usually taken my flu jab at a small satellite surgery, closer to home, but that involves queuing up in a narrow corridor leading to the consulting rooms. Not a good plan in the current dispensation.

Apparently they're allocating appointments at four-minute intervals. I should be able to time the local journey to that sort of tolerance.

Another typical police officer?
The Metropolitan Police has urged people to find a "lawful and safer way" to express their view on the issue.

Talks continue

Bedfordshire Police said the jury had "identified a number of significant failings by the police" for which it was "truly sorry", adding the force had made "extensive changes" since.
Usual soundbites
Emma Carter, secretary of Bedfordshire Police Federation, said she disagreed with the jury's conclusion that Mr Briggs was restrained in a dangerous way, and said officers "did their very best" to deal with "a very tragic incident".
Of course the union is going to "protect" their members.

Police said four arrests were made at the vigil to "protect people's safety".
The Met said it was the "only responsible thing" for them to do to ensure public safety.
The force added that a review will be carried out to see if "lessons can be learned".
Just your usual soundbites

I'm very disappointed in those 'usual soundbites'.

One is
Home Secretary Priti Patel has asked the Met[ropolitam Police] for a report on what happened,
So she's only listening to one point of view? There ought to be wider community input, and more balance, before she makes any decisions.

International readers may not be aware that the vigil came about because of the disappearance and subsequent death of a young woman walking home alone at around 9:30 pm. A serving Metropolitam Police officer has been arrested and charged with her kidnapping and murder. Events have been moving very quickly, and I have no idea of the background: even if I knew, I wouldn't post it here, because the usual UK process is to keep criminal evidence under wraps until the outcome of the trial. But it does mean that this particular police force will be under extreme pressure at the moment.

But that doesn't excuse the actions of last night. The police use the justification that they were "just upholding the law of the land". The law(s) in question being the covid restrictions on mixing with people from another family. Those laws - necessarily drawn up in a hurry and without scrutiny - are notably dogmatic, and don't allow for any flexibility to adjust for different purposes and different locations. The police are between a rock and a hard place - but the police forces in other cities managed similar vigils with a great deal more sensitivity.

Dame Dick hits out at "armchair" critics.
Well dear Dick, can you explain to this "armchair" critic why the Met stood idly by during the BLM protest during a lockdown?
Dame Cressida said she agreed on the need for a "sober review" and defended how officers responded to the "really big crowd".

Also, Dame Dick are you saying that you are often drunk when doing reviews?
PM deeply concerned
Bozo BoJo wants safer streets does he?
Well simple answer to that Bojo is stop employing thugs in uniform.

Two St. Louis police officers charged with rape.

Two St. Louis police officers were charged on Wednesday with the sexual assault of four women and a third officer was accused of tampering with a witness in the case, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Officer Lafeal Lawshea, 38, was charged with two counts of forcible rape along with counts of forcible sodomy, sexual misconduct and tampering with a victim.

He is accused of raping two women in 2009 and then sexually assaulting a civilian police department employee in 2019.

Officer Torey Phelps, 38, was charged with one count of forcible rape, allegedly assaulting an incapacitated woman at Lawshea's home in 2010.

Charging documents state that Lawshea bought her a drink at a bar and was present for the assault. The woman reportedly asked him: "Are you going to let him do this to me?"

The third officer was charged for allegedly tampering with a witness in the case, the outlet reported.

Sgt. Jatonya Clayborn-Muldrew is accused of attempting to persuade one of the victims not to report the sexual assault against Lawshea. The sergeant also allegedly inquired into who was leading the internal affairs investigation.

A historic cover up exposed.

Luna Park ghost train fire: Fatal tragedy wasn’t an accident or electrical fault.

Stunning claims are emerging that a criminal conspiracy is behind Australia’s worst theme park tragedy, which killed six children and a father.

It’s been more than 40 years since a dad and his two sons and four young school mates were burnt to death in the notorious 1979 Luna Park ghost train fire.

It is the deadliest tragedy at an Australian theme park, and was an unprecedented and unrepeated horror until four people lost their lives on Dreamworld’s Thunder River Rapids ride in 2016.

But when you compare the response following the two tragedies, the differences are stark.

In the latest episode of ABC’s Exposed, which is investigating how the deadly fire was allegedly arson, a group of horrified police officers and lawyers claim a criminal conspiracy was likely afoot when the inferno was quickly ruled an accident.
I just hope that justice can finally be done to catch up with those responsible for all of it who are still alive.

Nice judge
The last witness of the day was Genevieve Hansen, an off-duty firefighter, who said the officers prevented her from administering medical help that would have saved Mr Floyd's life. She was rebuked by the judge for her testy responses to defence questioning.
