A vehicle is considered to be double-manned if, at any driving period, in between two daily or a daily and weekly rest period, the vehicle has two drivers on board (who are able to drive and have a tachograph card).

Have had to quote that to many DVSA (VOSA ]several times in the past when stopped & had a driver's mate in the cab. Depending on load/area, thhat fact determines whether or not I take 1 or 2 tacho breaks.

Well, it sure sounded like - copper said - if you were in the other seat, no matter if you were asleep, timed out, or anything else, you had to be on the Tacho, er log. Now have your statement with more detail.

Now how that could effect a H&W team is hours related, one gets the required rest, wakes up hops in the other seat, but the other hasn't timed out yet and will keep driving until they do. USA is big, could be a few day drive coast to coast. Keep the load moving for as many of those 24 hours as possible.

That's where the UK differ from the U.S.
Double manning rules in the UK.
Maximum no of hours that can be worked is 18 in any one day but, as seen in the 1st quote, that can be extended to 20.
Also, when double manning, Driving/work must start & end same day & at the same base.

The drivers' hours rules puts a daily limit of 9 hours of driving between daily/weekly rest periods. The daily limit can however be increased to a maximum of 10 hours driving in a day but only twice in any one week.

Now there is the issue that confuses both drivers & "some" police officers & all because of the EU's WTD(Working Time Directive).

How many 15 hour shifts can a HGV driver do?
A HGV driver can get no less than nine hours' daily rest within a 24-hour period up to three times in a week. This means that drivers can work three 15-hour days within the space of a week.

Before coming off the road, always had an up to date copy of drivers hour & tacho regs (pdf's) on smartphone.
Had one incident where it was pointed out to a copper his info was wrong. Wasn't happy so proceeded to spend 40 minutes scrutinising our vehicle.
Didn't find any issues & wished us a safe trip. My retort didn't go down very well.

Five of the seven county commissioners have called for him to step down.

A growing number of elected officials and others have called on Sheriff David Hutchinson to resign following his drunken-driving conviction and allegations he lied to first responders.

In recent days, five of the seven Hennepin County commissioners have joined the list of those asking Hutchinson to quit. And the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training, which oversees police officer licensing, is now investigating Hutchinson's drunk driving conviction.

However, the sheriff has reportedly said he won't be forced out by his critics. He was elected in 2019.

Hutchinson admitted to drinking before he rolled his county-owned SUV on Dec. 8 in Alexandria. He had attended a Minnesota Sheriff's Association conference the night before. His blood-alcohol content was 0.13 and he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree DWI last month.

But recently, more has come out about the moments after the crash, including that Hutchinson denied being behind the wheel — he even said that a cab driver was behind the wheel, the Minnesota Reformer reported.....

More than a dozen convictions tied to a corrupt Chicago cop are being tossed.

Another 19 people had their criminal convictions vacated as part of a review of convictions tied to a crooked Chicago cop, former Sgt. Ronald Watts, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx said Tuesday.

More than 100 people with over 133 cases have had their convictions vacated since 2017, as prosecutors reviewed misconduct by Watts and members of his unit, according to Foxx.

"We were able to provide the relief to right the wrongs of the past but make no mistake, this is a sorrowful, sorrowful moment knowing that these individuals will never get that time back in their lives," Foxx said. "Their families will never get that time back and their futures were dictated by the actions of these officers."

The people whose sentences were vacated claimed they were framed by Watts and the police unit he ran. For more than a decade, Watts and his team operated a "protection racket" that involved planting evidence and fabricating charges against South Side residents "while facilitating their own drug and gun trade," according to The Exoneration Project, a free legal clinic at the University of Chicago Law School.

In 2013, Watts was sentenced to nearly two years in prison for stealing thousands from an FBI informant posing as a drug dealer. He was released in 2015.

CNN could not immediately reach Watts for comment on Tuesday.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said it will not oppose petitions filed by 48 more people -- involving 54 cases -- requesting their cases be dismissed as part of the office's ongoing review.

Those actions will be divided across two court, dates: February 8 and February 16.
