Hard to know whether this should go into the COVID or police thread...

WA Denies All Religious Exemptions To Vaccine Mandates, Hundreds Of Troopers Face Termination

Olympia, WA – Washington State Patrol (WSP) employees who refuse to comply with Governor Jay Inslee’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate will be fired, according to his office.

WSP employees who interact with the public must be fully vaccinated by Oct. 18 if they want to keep their jobs, KTTH reported.

Some staff members received emails on Thursday warning that there would be “no accommodation” for those who make “religious exemption requests,” according to the news outlet.

There are currently numerous police forces in the U.S. whose members are refusing to get mandatory vaccinations, and their unions are backing them to the point of threatening lawsuits. I think that this is a tailor-made and accurately targeted police reform solution opportunity: any officer refusing to be vaccinated without an actual medical exemption, especially one interacting with the public, has just demonstrated that they put their own personal safety (and for pretty much evidence-free reasons) ahead of that of the people they are supposed to be serving, so should be immediately fired. That should get rid of most of the bad cops immediately.

It would have been a genius of an Italian to have such a strong Liverpool accent.

Junior ministers are a protected species, held in reserve for a sacrificial resignation when the heat gets too close to the boss.

Un-frigging-believable!
A paraplegic person is unable to voluntarily move lower parts of the body.
Some have defended the officers' actions.
Jerome Dix, president of Dayton Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 44, said they had "followed the law, their training and departmental policies".
"Sometimes the arrest of noncompliant individuals is not pretty, but is a necessary part of law enforcement to maintain public safety," Mr Dix told the Dayton Daily News.

The inquiry heard Mr Betteridge raised the alarm but was told by care home staff "nobody would believe him because he was just a brat in care".
Mr Blair previously told the inquiry he was aware of the allegations but they were not a "bar" as Lord Janner had denied them, and there had not been any charges.
Police shut down investigation
An age old problem. No matter how many recommendations or new systems put in place, it will still continue.
After all, we're just serfs

A Subway Rider Confronted Unmasked NYC Police Officers. They Kicked Him Out.
The M.T.A. requires masks to be worn inside subway stations and on trains, and the Police Department requires officers to wear face coverings in public transit settings.

Ain't life grand
Chicago is not alone in facing this problem. Police departments across the US have been stymied in their efforts to coax officers into getting vaccinated against Covid-19 - now the leading cause of death for police in the US, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page, a non-profit that tracks police officer deaths.
In the decade before the Covid-19 pandemic, an average of 166 US police officers died in the line of duty each year, according to the non-profit. Last year, 374 officers died - 245 of them due to Covid-19, more than any other cause combined.
The pressure in the cooker is still building, just wonder when will it blow & where?

Minneapolis police officer is charged in fatal high-speed crash.

A Minneapolis police officer was charged with manslaughter for allegedly crashing his squad car into a vehicle during a high-speed chase earlier this year, which resulted in the death of an innocent man, authorities announced Friday.....

....Cummings, 37, was responding to a stolen vehicle report in North Minneapolis in the early morning on July 6 when he spotted a black Kia Sportage matching the description of the vehicle "suspected to be involved in thefts from businesses," the complaint reads.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the Kia sped away and a chase was initiated, according to the complaint. Cummings' squad car had sirens and lights activated as he pursued the car for more than 20 blocks -- including residential neighborhoods -- at speeds "approaching near or at 100 mph," according to the criminal complaint filed Thursday.

Cummings was driving at approximately 90 mph as he approached an intersection in an area with a 25 mph speed limit, according to the criminal complaint. Frazier, who had a green light, then entered the intersection in his Jeep and had a "partially obstructed view of traffic coming from the south" due to an apartment building on one corner of the intersection.

The Kia Sportage ran the red light and entered the intersection at roughly 100 mph, and it "narrowly missed" Frazier's Jeep. However, as Cummings pursued the suspect, he ran the red light at approximately 90 mph and crashed Frazier's car on the driver's side, the complaint says.
But he'll likely wind up as just another ex-Minneapolis nutty cop that just gets off with a slap on the wrist in the end. :-(

In Louisiana, a father, a son and a culture of police abuse
MONROE, La. (AP) — Growing up in the piney backwoods of northern Louisiana, where yards were dotted with crosses and the occasional Confederate flag, Jacob Brown was raised on hunting, fishing and dreams of becoming a state trooper.

But within weeks of arriving at the Louisiana State Police training academy in Baton Rouge, instructors pegged Brown as trouble. One wrote that he was an arrogant, chronic rule breaker with “toxic” character traits that should disqualify him from ever joining the state’s elite law enforcement agency.

Fortunately for Brown, the state police was known as a place where who you knew often trumped what you did, and where most introductory chats eventually got around to a simple question: Who’s your daddy?

Jacob Brown is the son of Bob Brown, then part of the state police’s top brass who would rise to second in command despite being reprimanded years earlier for calling Black colleagues the n-word and hanging a Confederate flag in his office. And the son would not only become a “legacy hire” but prove his instructors prophetic by becoming one of the most violent troopers in the state, reserving most of his punches, flashlight strikes and kicks for the Black drivers he pulled over along the soybean and cotton fields near where he grew up.

The force confirmed the sexual offence charge pertained to a period that pre-dated his employment with them.
So no vetting then

I'd hate to think that someone with an active arrest warrant could be hired.

It just had to happen sooner or later. :-(

Two Pennsylvania police officers were fired for submitting fake COVID-19 vaccination cards to their department.

Officers Heather Schaeffer and Benjamin Lapp of the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were terminated "following a Bureau of Police internal investigation into the use and submission of false records related to the City's COVID-19 reporting protocols," the bureau said in a statement.

Officer Schaeffer obtained a blank vaccine card from a family member, made a copy of it, and sold it to Officer Lapp for $20, Lancaster Online's Dan Nephin reported. Lancaster Online obtained records of the incident through a public records request.
