Nowata County, Oklahoma sheriff and staff quit over unsafe jail
An Oklahoma sheriff and all of her deputies have quit in protest of dangerous - possibly lethal - conditions at an old rural county jail.

Nowata County Sheriff Terry Barnett said the dilapidated jail had near-toxic carbon monoxide and mould levels and no fire alarms, among other issues.

Prisoners have been housed in another jail since the end of February due to these safety concerns.

The officers quit after a judge ordered them to return prisoners to the jail.

At a news conference on Monday, Ms Barnett announced that she, along with her undersheriff, deputies, head dispatcher and the majority of the jail staff, were resigning over the "inexcusable" conditions.

Just another typical cop doing the typical cop thing ...
https://mynewsla.com/crime/2019/03/26/trial-expected-for-third-pomona-officer-linked-to-county-fair-arrest/
Sgt. Michael Neaderbaomer is charged in Los Angeles federal court with obstruction of justice for making false statements to the boy’s mother — a dispatcher with the Irwindale Police Department — and lying to the FBI about those statements.

The trouble for Neaderbaomer began on Sept. 24, 2015, when Erain Aguilar walked into the Pomona Police Department to file a citizen’s complaint on behalf of her son. Weeks later, the mother received a call from Neaderbaomer in which the Internal Affairs Department sergeant allegedly tried to talk her out of pursuing an investigation into the violent arrest of her son.

“Instead of encouraging her and her son to come forward to share their side of the story in a safe and neutral environment, defendant did the opposite,” according to the government’s trial memo.

Chicago police raided wrong home during child's birthday party

CHICAGO, Illinois -- A civil rights lawsuit claims that Chicago police raided the wrong house during a 4-year-old boy's birthday party.

A Chicago family alleges that 17 officers executed a search warrant on their home on Feb. 10, smashing the child's birthday cake and trashing the apartment.

Officers also pointed guns at the boy, Terrence Jackson, Jr., and his 7-year old sister,
the family said. The children's mother says her daughter is fearful of police.

The search warrant was for a suspect who had not lived there for five years. No one was arrested or charged. None of the contraband items listed in the warrant were found, the family's attorney said.

Police shooting near Yale exposes complex racial divide
Connecticut State Police said last week that the officers engaged their weapons when the driver "exited the vehicle in an abrupt manner" and turned toward them. Upon releasing Eaton's bodycam footage on Tuesday, following multiple days of protests for police accountability, State Police Commissioner James Rovella could not detail why the officers opened fire after commanding the driver to open the car door. Witherspoon could be seen on Eaton's bodycam getting out of his car at that moment.

Eaton only turned on the bodycam after the shooting, and Pollock failed to turn his on at all.

Witherspoon, who was not found to be armed, has not been charged. State police and the Connecticut State's Attorney's Office are still investigating the case, Rovella said, and both officers remain on paid administrative leave.

From the NYT account,
The footage from a police body camera shows an officer drawing his gun and approaching a red Honda Civic near Yale University in New Haven. A black man with dreadlocks is seen stepping out of the car and raising his hands into the air.

Almost instantly, the police officer appears to start shooting. He moves to the side of the car and continues to fire his weapon, shattering the passenger-side window. As he retreats, the sound on his body-cam kicks in.

“Twenty shots fired. Argyle street. With the car, with the car,” Officer Devin Eaton of the Hamden Police Department is heard shouting. A police officer from Yale University had approached from a different angle, and in a separate surveillance video is shown firing his weapon several times.

Isn't that the way it works?

Shoot first and ask questions later?

Especially if the person isn't white?

Sounds like there are too many guns around and that the police are already very nervous and jumpy and perhaps scared before any encounter has even started...

All very dangerous and deadly for all...

Isn't they why every police union is violently opposed to a bill changing the standard of being able to murder innocent civilians from "reasonable" to "necessary"?

It has taken time, but Verdict in police shooting death of unarmed Australian woman Justine Ruszczyk Damond..

The American police officer who shot dead Australian woman Justine Ruszczyk Damond after she called 911 to investigate a possible sexual assault has been found guilty on two charges.

Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor, 33, has been found guilty of third degree murder (intentionally causing bodily harm but not necessarily death) and second degree manslaughter in relation to Ms Damond’s death. He was cleared of the more serious charge of second degree murder ( intentionally killing another person with malice). The jury of 10 men and two women took less than one day to reach their decision.
We hope that the sentence actually sends a message and not just a slap on the wrist.

Not always doom & gloom regarding police.
Some officers broke with a "hot zone" protocol to stay out of unsafe environments unless armed.
They knew the attackers were carrying knives and wearing what they thought were suicide vests, but could see the public were at risk and casualties needed help, the court heard.

Amazing what one can get away with by just using 2 words.

Can't be all that serious as it took 2 years to act.

Do they have a First Amendment there? (or can you print only if you have the Queen's tax stamp?)
Two years might just be dotting the "i's" and crossing the "t's".

It has certainly caused a stir (by time and timing) here as these raids have happened while both the PM and Min. for Defence were (and still are) out of the country.

They were no longer interested in actually defending the country. They were simply interested in defending themselves.
These are principles that unfortunately we are seeing eroded around the western world.
One law for us, another for them
Don't they rely on informants in the prevention of crime? Yet go ballistic when informants expose their wrongdoings.
