Perhaps this has been done before, but I thought it'd be interesting to post a list of the hardware you use for crunching work units. I'm sorta a noob at this (Feb 2018), but I'll start with my list: Dell Latitude E6510 With Intel i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz. Graphics: Nvidia NVS 3100M, 512 MBytes. |

On Thursday, (5-3-2018), I will be picking up a used MacPro 5,1 - 2010 Dual Quad Core System with built-in Apple Blue-Tooth/WiFi Card!!! It will ONLY have an ATI HD 5770 1GB GPU; BUT, will have 12GB DDR3, ECC System RAM. I've looked into iBuildMacs.com for possible Upgrades; and WILL be getting 32GB DDR3, ECC System RAM for $140. I will be saving for the iBuildMacs.com NVIDIA GTX-1070 8GB GPU for $850, and a 1TB SSD for $425. The system, as is, comes with FOUR 512GB Internal Hard Drives, ALL Seagate!!! I'm hoping to be LUCKY and have these drives survive over the next year while I save for the 1TB SSD for High Sierra. One of the drives will have HS 10.13.0 Installed that I will Upgrade to 10.13.3, and one of the spare drives already has Sierra 10.12.1 with A SLEW of software that would cost me COPIOUS $$$ if I had to pay for the software myself. [EDIT:] Also, the Mac comes with a genuine Apple Blue-Tooth Wireless Keyboard!!! (Full size with 10-Key!!!) The Keyboard also has 16 Function Keys. [EDIT 2:] Also forgot to mention that system comes with a 23" Apple Cinema Display on DVI. System is less than $620 as is. I will be setting up a separate "Work" ID Platform in BOINC to crunch on the Xeons over the next year, as I don't believe the HD 5770 1GB card can do much SETI work. My current primary platform is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Ver 1.6, BIOS Ver FD, with Intel Quad Core Extreme X9650 at 3GHz, two EVGA GTX-750TI SC 2GB Cards, one WD Black 1TB SATA HD with MacOS X 10.11.6, and one WD Black 1TB SATA HD for Win 7 Pro SP-1 x64. System has a three drive Hot Swap Bay, (Dual Bay Install), and a Lite-On DVD-RW Drive. I'm crunching in MacOS with TBar's OpenCL App on the two 750TI SC Cards. I also have an AMD A6-6400K APU with a built-in Radeon card, (NOT used), and an old 2006 Internal WD Black 250GB SATA Drive with Win XP Pro x64 SP-2, another Lite-On DVD_RW Drive, and an EVGA GTX-760 with 2GB GDDR5. This system is crunching 2 Einstein Units at a time on the 760 Card. The 750's crunch 1 Unit at a time, and each card has 2GB GDDR5. Can't wait for the Dual Xeon Mac!!! :-) TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

Basically TL the RAM upgrade is a waste of $'s. Save your $'s for the GPU. ;-) Cheers. |
