As you can probably see I am still struggling with the basics of a different OS.

Have now just worked out how to copy text from one machine to another.

Thanks for that confirmation. Missed the original sensor report I guess.

I'm still learning the tips and tricks of Linux. That is why I use a lot of Googling that usually finds the exact question's answer over in the Linux forums or Help FAQ's. When I find something that I know I will be doing again in the future I usually make a document out of it and drop into my Linux docs folder for future references. Saves time researching how to do things over and over.

I had lot of experience with command line DOS back in the day. Which continued to be useful with 10 years of OS/2 Warp and eComStation OS usage. Then I ran a year of Linux about 7 years ago before making the move to Windows 7. So some of the things in Linux came back to me fairly easily. I think I feel more comfortable in Linux than I ever did . . . . . or do . . . in Windows to this day. I just don't like how things are hidden away in Windows.

I started in Dos and Win 3.11, used the command line back then but stayed in the Windows environment so had very little command line experience since then apart from telephone systems but that was totally different.

Been using google for some answers, but don't always think about it for some of the more obvious:-(

Found out that I can use a win text doc located on my file server for passing text between systems.

I standardized on LibreOffice a while ago so I can open all my old Windows Office documents easily. I still have my old Windows 7 drives in my daily driver that contains all my old Windows files and apps. Can't use the apps obviously but I still need to refer to old Windows documents.

I installed Samba on all the crunchers and set up shares on all systems so I can drag and drop, modify, read and write any file on any system from any other system. Don't need to do any sneaker net transfers. The only time I use a flash drive anymore is to install a new BIOS on any machine.

Was it running LInux or Win10? System logs would give a clue in Linux and or Event Viewer in Win10.

Running Linux, have not restarted W10 since finishing with Seti in it.

To tired to poke around in logs, may look later.

Found my Win 10 computer rebooted and not running BOINC this morning. Looked at Event Viewer and see that M@ installed a blasted update and rebooted the machine. Since this was a recent refresh I have not reset all my previous settings to keep M$ hands off the machine during hours when I am asleep. Remedied.

I was afraid that my push to 4100Mhz all cores yesterday might have been unstable. Glad that was not the case. Those dual rads are easily handling the extra 60W or so.

Could not find out what caused mine to stop, it also managed to screen freeze a while after but I have found a lot of problems with another program "Variety" which I was using to change background pictures using pictures in a folder on a windows disk, I have disabled this and Psensor and it looks to be running stable again.

Ha ha. Saw your image getting bigger and bigger in my rear view mirror. Had to put two hands on the steering wheel to compensate for the wind shear of your passing.

Message 1942016 - Posted: 30 Jun 2018, 19:27:16 UTC

If anyone is interested in just how far the RAC has dropped this year, back around Christmas when the Arecibo reruns were going a 1080 Ti would have been good for 100k. Now 4 of them are only producing a little over 200k. Four 1080 Ti use to produce around 400k a very short time ago, back then Petri's four 1080s were producing around 400k.
Nice hit there, close to 50%? Or, is it 100%?
When I got my 2nd 1060 back before the change, the RAC shot up to 100k right after New Years, then the Arecibos stopped. Now Four 1060s are having trouble reaching 100k.
Such a shame.

My RAC is still climbing but Threadripper is nowhere near fast enough to catch Petri's machine, ATM he is processing a LOT more WU's than I can.

Its not only us fast ones that are getting hit, the slower machines must also be taking a pasting, if too many of them decide to switch to other projects we will have problems processing all the available data.

Message 1942032 - Posted: 30 Jun 2018, 20:48:24 UTC - in response to Message 1942016.

My peak RAC for my 3 x 1080s was 215k back Aug 27,2017 with a 4 core 3820.
That's more than the current 4 x 1080Ti w/32 Threads is producing now @ 201k.

I upgraded to a 6/12 Thread CPU and peak again Jan3 @ 183k.

Upgraded one 1080 to a Titan XP (Basically 1.5 times a 1080) and now I'm @ 155k ....

SIGH

The easiest way to see the output is to hit the FreeDC button. It appears without the CPUs it's running a little over 200k, with the CPUs it's around 250k.

Last year a single 1080 Ti would produce 100k, a 'normal' 0.42 AR Arecibo task would net close to 100 points. Now a BLC that runs slightly longer is netting Less than 60 points. Mine are currently in the mid-50 point range, some are in the 40s. About Half as much as before.
Yes, everyone at SETI is getting hit, but, the project now looks half as inviting as it did 6 months ago to those looking for higher numbers.
Nothing good will come of this.

Learn something new each day, I did not realise that I could get individual machine stats via FreeDC like that.

I just looked at this (I7) machine and its embarrassing, 4 CPU cores and 1 GPU for SETI, 1 GPU for Einstein, you need a microscope to see the SETI RAC:-(

I use this machine for watching downloaded video's etc, as long as Einstein is running on the same card as the monitor I get no lag etc.

I agree with you, creditnew needs to be sorted out, If it keeps dropping we will soon be getting next to no credit and also loosing the gauge to judge performance by:-(

Einstein on Threadripper is only done now as a backup on maintenance days or server problems, we could do with a scale-able cache system for the faster machines, if it was set across all machines and cut back the cache on some of the slower machines it should not put too much more strain on the servers.
