They really need to load an AP data set, as it looks like they just can't split and verify fast enough to meet demand right now.

Well, that would be typical after starving every computer on the project for so long.
Work is going out, results out in the field is increasing on the SSP, so things will catch up as long as the splitters don't decide to go on holiday.

All reported here, but it's getting cold with 8 idle CPU cores and 6 idle GPU's.

Opening the gate to those ready to send w/u's would be nice (and warmer here).

Cheers.

. . Does that mean 8 CPU cores still have work and 8 GPUs as well?

. . Everything completely empty here ...

Stephen
8 CPU cores yes, but only 2 GPU's (the 550Ti's).

They're all working now with only my winter heaters short on their caches still.

Cheers.

. . In true Murphy's Law fashion, the 2 smaller/slower rigs have received work (caches about half full) while the big hitter is still getting nada. Project has no tasks available. In the hope that a smaller work request might get some results I have reduced the cache size to 2 hours ... fingers crossed.

. . {edit} Nope still getting zilch ...

Stephen

I just have not been able to get any cpu tasks on four machines. Only one machine has been able to pull a full cache of cpu tasks. The other machines have only been able to get gpu tasks. I've never fully understood why BOINC will refuse to get cpu work when sched_op_debug always asks for a ton of cpu work seconds, yet never receives any. I think I might have to turn off gpus in preferences to force BOINC to send me cpu work only. Maybe that will get me cpu work eventually.

Don't quote me on this, but I thought there was something about Boinc trying to fill the cache of the best computer resource first.

just for fun...and also hoping that by posting this that I'm wrong...

from a couple of data points (too few)...it looks like Results out in the field is going up (kittyman was right- I missed this)
It is going up by 10k every 10 minutes or so...very rough estimate from few data points.
Results out in the field is usually around 4,500,000. (sometimes up to 4,600,000)

4500k - 3925k = 575k... or 575 minutes until everyone has their caches full and are happy.
So in 9 hours (hopefully less) we should see everyone happy and Results Ready to Send begin to build back up.

I know Richard has explained this to me several times, but it never sinks in. I thought it was that cpu caches get filled first. But I probably am wrong and you are correct that best resource gets filled first.

But that is exactly opposite on the machine that got cpu tasks and the others didn't. The 1800X Ryzen got cpu tasks and the 2700X's and the Intel didn't. The 1800X has about 10-15 points less in cpu APR compared to the 2700X machines but 20 points more than the Intel APR. The Intel cpu is the weakest even though it is clocked 300Mhz higher than the Ryzens. By your reasoning, all machines should be seen by BOINC as having the gpus as best and fastest resource at all times.

BOINC is an eternal mystery to me. Ho Hum. Have cpu tasks on all machines finally and caches full up.

Like that weird outlining at the forum index?

Nope...

I don't see any weird outlining on my PC, but I do NOT appreciate the fact that they have expanded the forum index further vertically so now I have to scroll up and down more to see which forums have recent posts.
Meowgrrrrrrr.
(And I guess I do see that faint outline of the last thread viewed in the thread index within the forums.)

The extreme spacing of the columns makes it hard to see at a glance which forums have been active.

Yes it would be greatly appreciated if the column spacings were returned to their former measurements.

Cheers.

Here are the old and new versions side by side:

The main differences are

New 'mark all threads as read' button (do we really want to do that for all threads in all sub-forums?)
Sub-forum descriptions are allowed to word-wrap. So they were on the old version if the window was narrow enough: it's now forced.

These screenshots were taken on a 1600x1200 secondary monitor without a taskbar: that's deep enough to show every sub-forum (including for my team) without scrolling. But the industry is standardising on 1920x1080 widescreen HD, which isn't deep enough, especially if a taskbar is showing. I wonder what size screen David uses?

Edit - I also think it's bad design to have 'Mark all threads as read' on the index in the same position and the same style as 'New thread' on the sub-index.

The 'old version' came from a Wayback Machine snapshot taken on 23 December 2017 - it may have been different then or there.

It got the same colour green around the time we got the 'new' colour buttons around here and at BOINC: https://www.w3schools.com/bootstrap/bootstrap_ref_css_buttons.asp in August 2017. It just got a different colour green as I attested that the last one on that background was very sharp.

With all the "nice" cosmetic changes on the site over time, is it too much to ask for character limitations on user names & thread titles?

A length limit would be SO nice, and, compared with some of the other stuff that's gone on, so easy to do.

The image you posted is of the new (not so improved) page (Richard posted "old and new side by side" but the images are in "new and old" order).
