Why isn't my computer working on tasks with the closest deadline dates? Seems like those should come first.

BOINC usually does the work in a "First In, First Out" order and deadlines only come into play if there's a chance of missing them, then they'll go into high priority mode. ;-)

Cheers.

Nope.
First in, first served.
If there is a likelihood of running in to problems with a deadline, then the Scheduler will start processing those WUs to get them done before the deadline. Otherwise, best just to process them in the order they are received. No need to make things more complicated than they already are (and they are already plenty complicated).

NB- unless you're doing something like watching a video, there's no need to suspend Seti crunching while using the computer. Seti crunching is done at a lower priority than most other system operations & programmes.

Here is another

------------------------------------> DEAD HORSE <------------------------------------------------

that just can't be beat any further.

Using straight deadlines doesn't work at all due to all the different deadlines projects put on them. If they just used deadlines then only the projects with the shortest deadlines would ever get processed, WU's from Seti would never get worked on. I am not totally sure on how BOINC decides what WU to do next even though it has been posted on lots of different forums, Part of the formula uses FIFO i know it mixes Resource share and if a WU is about to expire. The rest is magic cast by a witch docter I suspect.

I hope that helps a little bit.
