Message 1926848 - Posted: 27 Mar 2018, 10:27:03 UTC - in response to Message 1926840.

Take care, do what the medics say, don't get stressed about not being able to do things.
I hope the operation goes well - I recall when my little brother had his quad bypass a few years ago, within days he looked so much better, but it took a good few months before he was able to do many things without pain (from the ribs they break to get in to do the job)

They may also try to restrict how much you can pickup and carry. I have heard one person say his doctor told him nothing more heavier than a six pack of soda pop.

...and don't be surprised if you have some "strange effects" - for example for many months my brother could't lift a sheet of writing paper above shoulder height while was quite capable of stacking cans on a shelf above head height, then one day there was a loud click from his ribs and everything worked properly.

Generally doctors will be quite conservative when saying how much you should lift or carry, and will normally start you off at quite low loads which they increase as the healing proceeds. The biggest area of concern isn't the repairs to the heart, but the ribs and chest muscles healing.

Take it slow and easy, do not try to rush things, it will take a long while before things get back to normal or near normal.

My dad had a bad attack, he was very lucky, he was very near one of the very few hospitals at that time that was able to do the surgery, he had a quad bypass and lived for another 40 years before old age finally caught up with him last year.

A quad bypass is one of those magic ops if my little brother is anything to go by.
The day before his he looked a horrid grey colour, then a couple of days after the op he had a decent skin colour and was almost back to his chirpy self.
Just remember that your ribs will take a fair time to get back to normal and do exactly as the doc and physio terrorist tell you.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
We don't need to remind you of the incredible advances medicine has made in recent years, so do your best to relax and put your trust in science.

well, i made it.
had to go in twice
because i wouldn't
stop bleeding around the grafts.
been home about ten days.
walking up and down stairs.
been out to eat 3 or 4 times.
i have no appetite yet.
my taste buds and nose have not
resumed full function.
hospital food ....don't get me started.

the only trouble i am having is the leg they took
two of the grafts from. still some pain there.
as for my chest, just a little pain when i cough.

had the first post op yesterday, the Dr's said
that i was way ahead of where i should be.
all that clean living, i guess.

thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.
i really appreciate every single one.

Sure it was clean living?
Heard it said this way. "I must have done something right in a previous life."
