Giant Roaches Can Grow Big Testicles When They Need Them

A new thread because the old one disappeared. I suspect it was closed because it wasn't very active. Darn you moderators!! ;-)

A tip for those that live in areas with Green Ants. Green Ants live in trees, and when all the trees get flattened, they get very, very upset.
Little buggers are all over the place since the Cyclone went through and biting first and asking questions later. And the Sugar ants are just as bad (although not nearly as numerous).

Don't know if we get the Green Ants down here in Adelaide, but the Inch Ants are a bugger when they latch on, the Sugar Ants are also a big problem here..

Here is a link to the old Bug Thread, which still exists but was auto-locked as the last post in it was several months ago.

Scientists discover ant species that fights enemies by detonating themselves, covering their foe in toxic goo.

Woe is the insect that crosses the path of the Colobopsis explodens ant.

Scientists exploring the Borneo jungle have just discovered the species, which dwells in the trees, and they were most intrigued by the ant’s unique ability – to explode and shower toxic yellow goo on to its enemies.

Yet as impressive and effective as the detonation is in killing its predators, it is ultimately a suicide defence, for it also explodes the ant’s whole body which ultimately leads to its own demise.

Exploding ants are a rarity and the Colobopsis explodens ant is the first new species to be found since 1935, with the finding published in the journal Zookeys.

The small, reddish ant was discovered living in the treetops of Borneo by a team including Alice Laciny, an entomologist with the Natural History Museum in Vienna, who described how the ants would detonate themselves to save other members of the colony
Cheers.

Exploding ants? Did the people in the "Middle East" learn this suicide tactic from ants?

I don't want to put ideas into anybody's head, but if we combine Wiggo's post here with Dr Who Fan 's most recent post in the adjacent thread, we could have evidence of a very-close-to-perfected fightback by the combined efforts of the insect and plant kingdoms.....

I was going to say that these ants are basically suicide bombers.

Checkout the video in the ABC's article on these ants, showing slow motion video of another type of ant that are able to "jump" away from danger (right down the bottom of the article).

Suspected killer bees form hive inside Allen (TX) home
Aggressive bees in Allen have chased off city workers and employees from several bee removal companies.

Harold Wright with Bee Safe Bee Removal in Dallas said he was called in to try to remove the bees from a homeowner’s attack on Rockefeller Drive after several other companies failed.

The bees are too aggressive. The homeowner was getting stung inside the home and sedation attempts were not working, he said.

“They were just swarming me head to toe. I mean, it was pretty crazy. I even got three to four stings myself even though I was double suited,” he said. “The hive was about 4 feet high up into the ceiling and it’s about 4 feet into the sofet. We’re talking about probably a 100 pound of honey hive. This is a monster hive here.”

Wright said the hive has been in the house since last year but now it’s swarming season. That means the bees are active and looking for a new home.

Although the bees haven’t been tested yet, he suspects they are Africanized killer bees and will need to be exterminated.

I'm going to take off the "(New)" part of the thread title. I've changed a title before. I hope I can remember how to do it.

Later:

Yep! Did it!
