HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KABC) --
A kitten named Elmer, who was found stuck in a glue trap meant for rodents, is now up for adoption at the spcaLA shelter in Hawthorne.

In August, a man found the kitten stuck in the trap. He took the four-week-old kitten, whom he named Elmer, to the spcaLA South Bay Pet Adoption Center.

Veterinary staff used non-toxic mineral oil to remove sticky residue from Elmer's paws and she then went through a health check. She received vaccines, a flea treatment and spent five weeks in foster care.

Now, Elmer is ready to find her forever home.

Elmer is not the only one who finds such sticky things irresistible, Grace has stuck Her paws in a moth trap or two and has managed to free Herself without My help.
Considering Her Super abilities, no shelf or small tailed electric rodent is really safe from Grace.

Poison is also indiscriminate and will work its way up the food chain as it makes the target animals much easier for prey to catch them and eat them and get poison into their systems. That leaves snap type which cause suffering. Unfortunately there is no 100% safe method. What ever you use, check at least daily.

+1 regarding poisons like Decon. My sister's cat nearly died from rodent intoxication. A "friend of Mickey" ate some Decon. Puddy ate the friend of Mickey. Puddy got really really really sick and nearly died. I know snap traps seem cruel, but the are least likely to cause collateral damage.

I don't even use spray in the house since Grace is here, though traps for moths I will use, I have 2 windows to replace that let them and heat/cold in.
Finding a place where Grace can't or won't go is a challenge, but that is not impossible.

Another problem with glue traps is it doesn't kill the pest critter right away. So you have to deal with a PO'd friend of Mickey. Not fun.

Use humane catch-and-release traps. They come in many sizes. Although I don't think anyone makes an effective humane trap for insects. 😂

I'm not releasing plague, hantavirus, lassa fever, hemorrhagic fevers, leptospirosis, lymphocytic chorio-meningitis, salmonellosis, tularemia vector/spreaders nor will I be raising west nile, dengue, malaria and zika spreaders, nor africanized bees. The risk to humans is too great.

As to the rest of the pest animals I'd much rather use good practice to make if very hard for them to share my abode and deny them human food. However if that mule deer shows up in my yard again, can you say venison?
Of course brown or black bears, bobcat and cougar will be handled by state game wardens and coyotes by local animal control.
Skunks eat snails, they are welcome, just so the neighbor dogs don't bother them. Don't have issues with opossum and the squirrels, well, look at my avatar.
Not near enough to a watercourse for raccoons. Birds of many kinds, only the peafowl are a problem but they mostly move on.

My neighbor had a target of opportunity walk through his yard a number of years ago. Took aim out the kitchen window and said, "venison".
