Have a new (Windows10) HP Omen Desktop 870-224 with an intel Core i5-7400 @ 3.0 GHz. This system has an NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB gaming graphics card. This is a standard (if entry level) gaming system from Best Buy. If anyone can offer guidance, please be aware that i would need click by click instructions. (i.e. enter <boinc.exe --detach_console> into the console manager ...would not be enough.) ID: 1924449 ·

The GPU runs about 19 times faster than each of the 4, Core i5 threads (8 min. vs. 2 1/2 hrs). BTW, that "Service Install" option during the install process, is accompanied by a very, to me, misleading comment or "Helpful" explanation which suggested that choosing this option would be safer !! "Run applications under a privileged account. This provides increased protection from faulty applications, and on Windows, it will prevent the use of applications that use the graphics chip (GPU)." I've tried to get this blurb cleared up many times, but the BOINC builder for Windows still refuses. In any case, in the roundabout way, it does tell you that you can't use your GPU for calculations when installed as a service. The reason why the service install won't be able to use the GPU is a Windows security measure that BOINC can't circumvent: this way of installing adds the privileged user accounts that the BOINC service runs with. These run in a different session than that the drivers that you installed run in. This causes the drivers not to be found, thus no detection of the GPU. The privileged account cannot install its own drivers. ID: 1924690 ·

Possibly because a Windows update has installed Windows drivers which do not have OpenCL Go to the Nvidia website and download the latest drives for your card and re-install. Although This link would certainly work, I recapitulated my initial Setup process: For anyone else having the same problem, here is what I Actually did: First I Un-Installed "BOINC". Then, In the "All Programs", I opened the "NVIDIA Corporation" folder, and clicked on "GeForce Experience". { C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GeForce Experience\NVIDIA GeForce Experience.exe } [ This is an NVIDIA setup program that came with the "HP Envy" entry level gaming computer. ], Next, Click on "Drivers" tab at the Upper-Left. Click "CHECK FOR UPDATES" in white letters at the Upper-Right. You may need to Click on the 3 vertical dots below that point and click on "ReInstall Driver" After ReInstaling the Nvidia Driver, I Rebooted and ReInstalled the BOINC program which hosts Seti@Home.
